Can anyone tell me, is there anywhere in the bible that says we can make our own anointing oil? If so can you tell me where?
And is there anywhere in the bible that tells you how or what types of oils to use and a prayer for blessing it?
Or can I make it but have to bring it to an elder of the church to have it blessed, or do I have to just get it from them all together.
Thank you
Pressing is how we get the oil from the olive. The Hebrew word for olive oil is shemen. The Hebrew word for press is gat. An oil press is the word gatshemen. Gethsemane is at the base of the Mt of Olives where Jesus was arrested.
Greek word Christos mean's anointed one Jesus Christ is: "The Anointed One".
The first mention of the olive in the Bible is the olive leaf that the dove returned to Noah, signifying peace & restoration from the devastating flood.
Olive pressing was done in 3 stages/pressings. The 1st pressing yielded the purest oil. As more weight was added to extract more oil. Excess from the 1st pressing would mix resulting in diminished purity.
The 1st pressing:
Olive oil was used as the holy anointing oil to consecrate the priests & instruments of the Temple sanctuary. God said that this sacred olive oil "shall be an holy anointing oil unto Me throughout your generations. Exodus 30:31
The 2nd pressing:
The Bible liken's us to sheep, the Lord is our Shepherd. Sheep often get into trouble & the shepherd lovingly anoints their heads with oil. "Is there any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the Church: and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord,". James 5:14.
Biblical anointing was not done with one or two drops. Samuel anointed David with a rams horn full of oil. 1 Samuel 16:13.
Anointing oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. The disciples were bold & "anointed with oil many that were sick & healed them,". Mark 6:13.
3rd pressing: was the least pure yield: used for lighting lamps & burning.
Gentiles are compared & referred to as "wild olive tree, (Rom 11:17).
During the temple age older large olive trees with deep rooting systems, would begin to dry out. Limbs from smaller wild olive trees would be cut off & grafted into the Large trees. To restore, stimulate & rejuvante the older trees sap system.
James 3:11-13. Let us be good olive plants, majestic olive trees, deep-rooted, long-lasting, producing good fruit for our Master.
Thoughout scripture oil is often linked to healing & joy. It was used to anoint kings & prophets. The highest link to oil signifies the Holy Spirit & outpouring/anointing of the Holy Spirit. Exodus 25:6, Exodus 30:23-33, Leviticus 8:30; Numbers 4:16, Lev 2:1-2, Mk 6:13 & 14:3-9, Lk 4:18, Acts 2:4 & 10:38, Heb 1-8-9
After Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples Lk 14:12-25. They went up onto the Mt of Olives Lk 14:26.
1st Pressing:
Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
2nd Pressing:
Jesus is arrested shortly after this prayer. He is taken to the Priests, put on trial and condemned. In the morning they take Him to Pontius Pilate. Jesus is beaten, mocked, scourged and forced to carry His Cross through the streets.
3rd Pressing:
Jesus is nailed to the cross and suffers in agony for 6 hours. Then Proclaims: It is Finished! and dies.
It is the crushing/pressing in the death of Messiah/Christ, Isaiah 53:5. That leads to our healing, joy & the ultimate outpouring of the indwelling Holy Spirit, Act 2:4.
We access through faith placed in the sin redemptive of Christ. Found in his death (sins required wage, PAID) burial (proof Jesus died) & resurrection (Fathers receipt, sin payment received & accepted). Whereby Christ baptizes us with his eternal salvation sealing (2 Cor 1:22, 2 Timothy 1:14, 2 Cor 5:5) indwelling Holy Spirit.
From Mt of Olives Jesus ascended into heaven: Luke 24:50 (NOTE: Bethany is 1 & 1/2 miles east of Jerusalem on the southeastern slope of the Mt of Olives)
Jesus return begins on the Mt of Olives: Zechariah 14:1-4 (NOTE: When Jesus returns he will physically stand on the Mount of Olives)
