"Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law." - Romans 3:31 NKJV
“Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works?

Nay: but by the law of faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions,

till the seed should come to whom the promise was made;

and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:19, 22-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:10-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the law of Moses was a covenant made with Israel the specific nation. Moses was the intercessor and mediator. The Gospel is what Jesus Christ said and is for all people who believe

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the gospel is the law that’s been established by Christ and his apostles the law of promise that came forth in him a promise made since the law has already been given to Israel

Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.

My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭51:4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Our law is the one of faith that says this

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

not this

“Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭31:15‬ ‭

that word is this

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

but we have the gospel law of the spirit

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Freedom and truth everlasting life

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

…Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32, 51‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when he speaks of Moses words in the law it’s like this

“And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?

And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭10:3-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and then tells them his word on the matter in the gospel which is as contrary as this from Moses law

Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭21:24-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:38-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Man taking justice into his own hands under Moses law or leaving it to mercy in the gospel contrary are the principles of Moses and Christ

we want the law of faith that saves us from the laws condemnation of all sinners in all the world

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:19-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the law made the last verse there known all have sinned

“what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”

now no one can wear phylacteries and boast about thier works of the law , no one can be excluded from a temple to
Be in Gods presence by the “ holy “ people of the law , no one can be judged or condemned by others but Christ will judge us all.

a lot has changed for the better we don’t want to live under the law but want to acknowledge our sins and repent and be baptized for remission , born of the gospel doctrine we accept into our belief and live by

Christs word is our law and Christianity established it and the apostles preached it later either way it’s definately the law of Christ not moses

The commandments are simplified in Christ “ don’t harm each other “ it’s as simple as following the love Christ taught us ( not harming each other is a result )

“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

For this,

Thou shalt not commit adultery,

Thou shalt not kill,

Thou shalt not steal,

Thou shalt not bear false witness,

Thou shalt not covet;

and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭13:8-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the gospel was sent into all the world to believe or nOt believe, while the law was given to Israel through Moses for the promised land of Israel the kingdom is about eternal Life for all nations who believe

“Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:29-31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We have the word of faith now

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I agree that the law cannot save us, only Christ can do that. But if you are correct that the ONLY job of the law is to condemn then I do not agree and neither does scripture.

I agree that it is one use of the law, but there are many, many other ways the law is to be used, also. It guides, enlightens, makes wise, brings us to Christ, it gives us the knowledge of sin so we can avoid sin, for just some of the other uses we are to make of the law. We are blessed when we use it to help follow Christ within us.

Romans 7:12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
But the object of desire Is salvation and eternal life given by GOD by grace.
But After salvation what can trying to keep the law In a person’s own strength do?I think the law Is for those who have not come to CHRIST and not for those who have already come to CHRIST.

Your mixing up what Moses said with what Christ said Mixing up the law and gospel.
The law and the gospel can't be mixed up, they work together. If we break the law we have the gospel.

People here are treating the law as if it is an alive negative material. It is simply a definition of sin and can be used as a positive wonderful force in our lives or used to kill us.

We need not have any emotions regarding that definition of sin. We, as Christians, need not fear sin for God gave us a way to handle sin, God gave us grace.

If we try to keep the law by our own strength and do not accept Christ within us, then we are not Christians.

If you are speaking of salvation there is no place in your explanation for even speaking of living without Christ, for salvation is Christ not keeping law ourselves without Christ. Actually, it is simply changing the subject of discussion.

The NO.1. reasons christians fail and especially leaders is because they preach the law and the law magnifies sin and gives power to the flesh to commit sin.

Preaching the 10 commandments is for backsliders and will produce backsliding. Preaching GRACE will make us holy.
Exactly. I still remember a preacher saying, "I preached about backsliding. Sure enough, the people backslid". That was about 45 years ago.

I take my lead from Ephesians. Paul starts off telling the saints what a wonderful salvation Jesus purchased for us. We find out who we are in Jesus and who He is in us. Then Paul talks about how that should work out in practice. Focusing on behaviour first and foremost is like those who place burdens on God's people but do not lift a finger to help carry them.

Do you think everything has been accomplished? That would take us to the end of days, and I have heard no trumpet sound to announce the end. The world looks the very same today as it did yesterday.
Jesus fulfilled the law completely. He said, "It is finished" from the cross. The world will never change. The gospel calls people out of the world and into God's kingdom. It's a new covenant, new life, new spirit, a new creation. The law applies to the old. God's salvation is perfect and complete. It even says that we are complete in Him. (Colossians 2:10, John 1:16). Do you imagine that the saints in heaven pore over the 10 commandments, freaking out in case they might break one? I don't. So why are so many obsessed with the law now?

sister you simply are here and can’t see because you refuse to let go of a temporary law mediators by Moses d ordained by angels and come to the lawgiver himself who gives life.

“And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:13-

There are two covenants Moses words for isreal exclusively not for the gentile nations. The Old Testament of course is how israel came to be a people and it was exclusively through Israel God would bless the earth in the New Testament the law of the ot is Israel’s rebellious children’s law given of Moses not for the other nations around Israel or for today’s nations but for Israel the people inheriting isreal the land.

the gospel is. NOt for israel
Only it began in israel and they are commanded to go preach the same gospel to the world d anyone that believed from all nations would be saved ! The law has no blessing for Gentiles in it they are excluded , the gospel has promise for all nations amd
Languages and people.

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

You know what Moses didn’t teach ? The gospel of the kingdom and what the law couldn’t offer ?

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:12-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

can’t be born of God through Moses word.

“And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

can’t be instructed as children of God by Moses his servant but the Son ….

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭KJV

“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:25-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:22, 24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

….Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32, 51‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Moses by the way never said anything like any of that his best was this but you really seem to reject the claim situons Moses set in his law donors here to reason with you about the old covenant

“If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you. And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you. And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people. But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate. And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me; Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins. And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat. And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you. And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it. And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste. And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth. And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies. And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up. And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them. If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭26:3-5, 9, 11-12, 14-25, 27-30, 32-33, 36-43‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we don’t want that law it’s a curse of you don’t do everything in it

“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭

Jesus repeated the law in stone--"you have been told". Jesus did not say that His Father was all wrong when He gave the law in stone. Jesus was perfect, not a rebel to His Father. Then Jesus said "but I tell you" and he went on to explain the law in our hearts, the original law from a God who is spirit not flesh.

You are getting truth all mixed up, it is a matter of separating the spirit of the law from the fleshly commands. God is spirit but gave fleshly commands to help man of flesh understand the spirit. It is NOT true that we may murder, steal, and lie as getting rid of the law in stone would have us do. We are to get rid of the commands of the flesh whose purpose was as schoolmasters to lead to the law of the spirit.

Cutting flesh we are rid of, we need no sign we belong to Christ. Belonging to Christ remains. Eating pure food for our stomach is not required to tell us to keep what is pure for the food for our spirit, stomach food is only eliminated but we are to feed our minds from God's food for the spirit.

Does scripture tell us the law of the Lord is dead?
Yes, the law of Moses is dead.

Heb 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

First of all, the law is the words of a covenant so the decaying of the covenant includes the law of that covenant:

Galatians 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

Is the teaching in scripture telling us our behavior should not be guided by the law?
Under Christian Liberty, we just have two "laws", but those who reject the "New and Better Way" will be judged by "The Old Way" that they preferred over Jesus' Atonement.

Matthew
22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
22:39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Romans
2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

2:17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
2:18 And knowest [his] will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
2:19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
2:20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
2:21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
2:22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
2:23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
2:24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

Matthew 5:17-20 is a teaching about not subtracting from God's written word. Jesus said over and over: "It is written." The scribes and Pharisees made the oral law of more importance that the written word. Thus they took away from the commandments of God and nullified them. Jesus is simply saying no part of the written law will pass away until all is fulfilled. We can still learn from the moral law in the Tanakh and obey it, but we're not under the Law of Moses.
The problem for the Christian is not insufficient knowledge. It is how to obey. The Christian dilemma is summarised in Romans 7. Paul was a great scholar, taught by the best. He knew the law inside and out. But that did not enable him to obey it. It's like demanding that a man with no legs learn to walk.

There was a discussion on another forum with a young man who was a member of strict, law following denomination. They only accepted that you were a Christian if you attended their church. They merged congregations and the young man lived miles away. He had no means to get to the new venue. Law says that he can't go elsewhere, yet he had no means to get there. If that group had any idea of grace, they would have arranged transport for him. They did not. And so it is with the law. It demands that we avoid sin but gives no power to obey its demands.

You are closer to the truth when you quote the sermon on the mount. The law of Moses was difficult enough. Lord Jesus made it impossible. No, the law in stone was not wrong, it is people who are wrong. Without new life, the sermon on the mount is impossible.

I've said this before, knowing the law is useless. We need the power to live in a way that pleases God. This is far above any law. Only the Lord Jesus living in and through us can fulfill the righteous requirements of the law. If people (yes, you) focused on who we are in Christ and who He is in us, the question of law and commandments would be irrelevant. We would be led by the Spirit. He will never lead us into sin. And more importantly, we would be walking in God's will for our lives as individuals. Law is for sinners to lead us to Christ. Once we are in, it's done its job. We should then learn to walk in the Spirit and so not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

We need a righteousness that exceeds that of the Pharisees. I have that righteousness. It's a gift, not a reward. It's a person, not a thing and His name is Jesus.

. And so it is with the law. It demands that we avoid sin but gives no power to obey its demands.
I think you are wrong. The Lord conquered the power of sin to kill with the blood of Christ. Our flesh has no power, but Christ within us has enormous power.

The Holy Spirit speaks to us in the word, and in the word is the laws of the kingdom of heaven, we are to listen and obey. We even have a remedy for when we can't come up to the mark--- we have forgiveness.

The no.1 reason you say? Wow man, what is the source of that assessment? What verse are we quoting here? :)

Grace is not a new concept. Grace was there while the God gave Moses the law and even before then... God has always been a God of grace.
There IS no grace with the law ... you do or you die, that is the law ... no grace

"the law came by Moses but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ"

The wages of sin is death and the strength of sin is the law, our flesh remains at enmity with God, it hates God's word and rebels against it. When you command it "thou shalt not" it shouts back "I will."

That is how the law is the strength of sin.

Moses gave earthly, flesh type commands to help people know and do the spirit of the law. Jesus took away the fleshly commands and put the law (the same law) in our hearts.

What many on this post are promoting is rebellion to the spirit of the law.

I think you mean "What one on this post is promoting is rebellion to the spirit of the law."

Yes. The law in stone contains the law in the spirit, and there is much said against 'law'. The commandments as they are written in stone are also written in our hearts. You could not literally murder if you obeyed Christ's spirit of the law.

The 10 commandments represent the perfect morality of God by which we are judged. However, no man can stand justified before God.

Jesus Christ is the perfect God who became man, to pay the price for the sins of mankind completely, so that mankind may be redeemed by faith... and faith alone least any man should boast.
