Straight razors seem more economical, too. You don't have to replace them, right? Just sharpen them.
Exactly...but the outlay for strops, and honing stones and etc makes them about the same...just a larger initial outlay... eventually I guess that it will be cheaper. I haven't bought razors in a long time though... several years in fact.

But outside of that, I feel like there is a demonic, evil, CONSPIRACY to get men to shave their beards off. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. I'm not trolling, and I'm not kidding around. Well, I'm kidding a little bit, but I AM SERIOUS!
Yup. It's too make men more feminine. The same as the push to make women more masculine. Look at what is being pushed by the media ghouls.

LOL!! But on the other hand, they screamed for "equality"....so let them change their own tires??

For me, I'd help out a mom with a bunch of kids. But a corporate, career woman? I'd let her change her own tire...in the rain...in a bad section of town. I might stop... only to laugh and just tell her "Lefty tighty, righty loosey". hahahaha!!:ROFL::devilish::devilish:
I'd rather change my own tire. And brakes. And whatever else I can. I don't trust mechanics.

And regarding beards - yuck. They just look gross.

That's how I read that for some reason :). I definitely get that beards can be gross, if they aren't taken care of, like anything else. But I'm definitely suspicious of women that have an aversion to beards in general. The aversion to being swindled by a mechanic, I totally get though! I had a guy do my exhaust and A/C in February, and my car was loud and the A/C stopped working again in April...

When I see a pretty woman with an effeminate man I just laugh to myself. The woman is no doubt cheating on him. And the "man" probably doesn't even care. Can't take either of them too seriously.

That said, I think a lot of effeminate men will wear a well manicured beard to try to hide how womanly they are. You're not fooling anyone, metroboy.

Eh, there are times my husband likes to "scape" his beard, though he generally leaves it to "grow wild" (still brushes it and all that, just doesn't trim it). He's very much a man and doesn't act womanly at all, no matter the beard style. We also have friends who keep their beards trimmed and they are total dudes.

You can't really judge the bearer of the beard by it's style. ;)

If we go back in time, the 50s for example, we see facial hair was typically frowned upon, as were feminine men. Yet gender roles were clearly established. Men were men and had jobs to take care of their family, women wore dresses and were the home makers.
And going further back we continue to see the same pattern. In fact, as a whole in society beards are more accepted now than in decades past. Just a few years ago long beards were pushed and encouraged in culture.
A few niche groups and a 100 year old tradition that beards are unprofessional doesn't exactly scream demonic attack.

I agree. Am guessing this thread is meant to be tongue in cheek though?

Definitely, if you read Amy Vanderbilt men are supposed to keep their tongues in their mouths. Emily Post goes so far as to say that instead of licking stamps you should use a sponge in polite society.

You'd like to think so, but it doesn't seem that way to me. Neither did the "conspiracy against cats thread". They, too, we're quite serious.

Like I said, I am kidding around a little, but I am also serious. I wouldn't use the 50's as an upstanding decade of gender distinction- this is when women really started displacing men in the workforce and abandoning traditional roles.
As a Christian feminist,
What is a "Christian feminist"? Forgive me, but when I think of a feminist- the last thing I think of is Christ. It usually conjures images of psychotic college chicks running around with their top off, screaming a men- confused as to why men don't respect them.

A feminist believes women have choices as to whether they work or be a stay at home wife or /mother , so as a Christian I believe we follow the individual calling Christ has for our lives. That both marriage and celibacy are choices for both male and female

That women have the right to be safe from abuse of any kind or rape even if that means leaving a marriage

That women have the right to decent maternal healthcare

That women have freedom to choose safety from forced marriage and female genital mutilation

That both men and women have different strengths (am speaking generally here) and are made differently but are saved the same way and have the same spiritual giftings.

That marriage is a partnership and headship and submission means protection

That women are to be gentle and humble as the Bible says which does not mean they can't have careers or decide to choose their own marriage partners etc

That women can look beautiful. It isn't what's important but I don't really see anything in bible forbidding a woman making the best of herself and wearing nice clothes

None of the screaming wearing vagina hats are anything I aspire to . I don't have the right personality for that kind of thing anyway. am v introverted and would rather just read a book ! I don't tend to sit around worrying whether men respect me or not, I like living alone! I

I don't really believe in abortion but I think if one doesn't want children that's ok as long as no life taken.I

So i don't believe anything that contradicts bible . I don't do legalism though, I am sure God not bothered about a woman wearing trousers and doing an engineering job!

These are the words of King Lemuel—the burden that his mother taught him: What shall I say, O my son? What, O son of my womb? What, O son of my vows? Do not spend your strength on women or your vigor on those who ruin kings.
Why can't either a man or a woman change a tire? Both drive cars, so changing a tire is needed for both genders, i would have thought

Praise the lord- those vagina hats are really disturbing. I'm in agreement for the most part, and I get that women haven't always been treated as they should. I don't think it's a good trend for a nation when most women want to "be independent" (because, I don't think men are really even independent) but I totally get that the single life is better for some people. Some of that is men's fault too- we don't always exactly succeed in making marriage to us appealing in many ways.

By all means, change your tire! Why should men spend their strength doing it for you? :)
