Why do Christians believe in a place of torment called Hell?

You didn't directly state that I'm a psychopath, but you're being passive aggressive about it in order to maintain plausible deniability when I confront you. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
His spirit died that day, not his body...he didn't face physical death for hundreds of years after that day.
We also know that we must be born again and.... that is the spirit that must be born again.... or we will remain spiritually dead.
If we remain spiritually dead (separated from God) at judgment then we will face the 2nd death (eternal separation from God).
I have noticed its mostly people only believe in KJV only that fall in the trap of a burning hell forever.
No, it comes from the bible.

The no rest is a reference to when they take mark of beast, not when they are cast into the lake of fire. We are told the wicked will be consumed into smoke which means they are annihilated.
Psa_37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
Some people teach this isn't going to happen.
Generally the bible seems to speak of twofold divison in man, either body or soul or body and spirit Mat 10:28, Rom 8:10; 1cor5:3;7:34
By "Spirit" "Pneuma" Rom 8:16 speaking of the intelligence and thought
By "soul" psuchē Matt. 10:28) When distinguished from spirit may be understood that part of a mans nature that find expression through emotions and desires

I my self lean to the 2 parts. More evidence point to a 2 part reading the bible as a whole.

Yes, it does. We know that Adam's spirit died that day and that is the first death recorded in scripture....Spiritual death.
Ok, I've not considered this verse. I will go back and read all of Psalm 37 to see what it is talking about there.
The study of Death is very important. It leads to a understanding of Gods character first and foremost. Second it can give you a understanding of prophecy , if you do not understand Gods character then you can not understand the Book of Revelation which is The Revelation of Jesus Christ him self.
Here in 1 Th 5:23 Is a good example that God sanctify the psuchē his emotions and his "soma" flesh and pneuma mind.
No, I'm not a King James only...I read a few different...But KJV is probably the best. It is more concise and seems to follow along more closely with the original texts.
I don't like any of the newer translations. They seem to change words and meanings around to try to uphold newer doctrines.

Well, actually zero scriptures refer to Adam's spirit being dead or that he suffered a "spiritual death". What we do know is that God said death would happen the day someone ate of that fruit so a death did occur but scripture does not name it or explain further.
We also know Adam did not physically die so it was a type of death where the person remains physically alive. A body cannot remain alive without a living spirit within them, Jas 2:26, therefore we know that Adam's spirit was still alive as his body was still alive.
This means the type of death was a figurative one. I normally use the term "spiritually dead" to convey that but not to also mean the spirit is literally dead.
Adam was simply symbolically dead in his sin/sins as many people are who are physically alive and have a living soul and spirit.
