Hi all dear brother and sisters. If smoking ciggerettes was classed as a sin, would you obey that law ?

Firstly there is no mention of smoking ciggerettes in our bible, so i can only assume they where not invented then.

However i need to ask the question, why is adultery the only sin you can commit against your own body.

KJ21
Flee fornication. Every other sin which a man doeth is outside the body, but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

I have a strong belief that the five sences of the body all get defiled and polluted when you smoke cigerettes, thus making smoking ciggerettes a sin against the body (the flesh) which then gives a demon the ability to possess the flesh of the body. would this be the same for adultery,

Perhaps you should read the life story of Charles Spurgeon, one of the most famous preachers in history. At the age of 23, he preached to a crowd of 23,000 people. He smoked. God is far less concerned with what goes in through the mouth than what comes out. Judgemental, critical, unloving, harsh and self righteous pronouncements anger God far more than smoking.

Smoking does not affect the senses. Smokers can perform tasks, remember, think, feel and decide just as well as anyone else. I hasten to add that I am not, and I never have been, a smoker. My parents smoked. Some of my good friends were smokers. They gave up late in life. I would not advocate for smoking. It's not much fun for non-smokers and it's a waste of money. But it is nowhere near as bad as what you have not mentioned, alchohol and mind altering drugs.

It's easy to judge people. Smokers have as hard a time giving up as heroin addicts trying to quit. I know this because I was a part time volunteer with Teen Challenge for a year or so. The subject was discussed reasonably often.

Its like fear, some cry and others laugh, all thoughts can be like and dislike, that is for learning judge will come back and judge yourself by thoughts. nothing can hurt spirit we all have that ability to say I AM, now the body gets effected by our thoughts, healthy can get cancer and die young, they created by believing good and bad, and some don't worry about any of it, they know death is not a victory and laughed at by our spirit that knows what grace and love can defeat any fear or any evil created by thoughts. the earthy body does return to dust, .

The word is "cigarettes". You could have easily checked that before posting.

Why do you worry about hypothetical situations; does the Bible not address enough that you need to deal with in your life?

Firstly there is no mention of smoking ciggerettes in our bible, so i can only assume they where not invented then.
There were many things invented at the time that were not mentioned in the Bible; it's not an exhaustive encyclopedia of the times.

However i need to ask the question, why is adultery the only sin you can commit against your own body.
Because God says so in the Bible.

I have a strong belief that the five sences of the body all get defiled and polluted when you smoke cigerettes, thus making smoking ciggerettes a sin against the body (the flesh) which then gives a demon the ability to possess the flesh of the body. would this be the same for adultery,
Where do you get the idea that "sin against the body... gives a demon the ability to possess... the body"?

Where do you get the idea that smoking tobacco "defiles" any of the senses (defilement being a spiritual condition, not a physical one)?

That which goes into the body does not defile the man; rather, what comes out of the heart defiles the man (see Matthew 15:11 and Mark 7:15).

Just imagine Jesus as a smoker

A nasty destructive stinky habit that is a blight on humanity.

Others are forced to breathe their exhaust and have health issues .

No virtue whatsoever can be ascribed to such a nasty habit.

Smoking is great if you like it.

We will take a simple little verse and show you why it is not addressed to the natural man, Ecclesiastes 3:15:

“That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.”
The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”

...and yet I did this for 50 years. Smoke free since mid Feb though. Nicotine is horribly addictive. Still feeling the pain of withdrawal but each day I'm smoke-free is getting a little better. I can think of worse things that are a blight on humanity besides smoking.

Smoking is not good for anyone. I don’t smoke. I strongly dislike the smell of cigarette smoke.

The act of smoking does not lead to demonic possession.

Sorry
I did not mean to be so harsh.

Yes there are worse things.

Me being negatively affected personally and suffering from physical reaction when exposed to smokers, definately puts me in a severe predjudice position.

Others being forced to breathe their exhaust is a very unique dilemma....I really dont know anything that tops it as far as pretending it is ok.

Nobody should have to breath second-hand smoke.

My wife lost both of her parents from smoking related causes as well as other unhealthy lifestyle choices. She lost her mom at age 8 and her dad at age 12. She prays each day for God to remove the cravings from me and to keep me smoke-free.

I know that giving up smoking is something I should do for me but the truth is I want to do it for her. A lot of people have prayed for me through the years to quit smoking and I did not want their prayers, along with the prayers of my wife to be in vain.

What's harsh is dying from lung cancer like my dad. You have nothing whatsoever to be sorry for.

I don't have a good answer for this but I've thought about it many times. I just try to focus on the fleeing part, that's enough to keep me busy.

Positing the question as you have, and assuming you are referring to the covenant God had with Israel, then yes, for the same reason God forbade eating certain types animals, namely: God knows best, and smoking is not at all good.

I can't picture drunkards desiring their drunkardness, or drug addicts desiring their drug addiction, or the overweight and obese desiring gluttony, or the prideful desiring their eventual fall. These are all sins, but they don't compare to the desirous sins associated with sexual immorality.

People desire in their heart the euphoria that only comes from sex, where nothing else comes close. People desire in their heart reaching an orgasmic climax better than the last, which can only come from sex. With sexual immorality, you don't need to have an actual partner; if your thoughts are lustful, you are sexually immoral in your heart.

Sexually stimulating oneself by a thought process, or by viewing pornography, causes a person to believe in their very being that they are in fact engaging in the actual physical act of sex. It is only after the release that was sought through self-stimulating masturbation that reality sets in, that is to say: it was all a fantasy. By that time, your heart is infected by that sinful sexually immoral act, unlike getting drunk but not following through with becoming inebriated.

Personaly along with others i dont know the real reason why adultery is classed as the only sin you can commit against your own body. We would all be guessing i think. But i do feal it has something to do what the devil wants the most from sinners, demons possibly love lust and getting the person to defile Gods honor of marriage and the honor of your body(self respect), or defiling your own self respect. perhaps its a sin that totaly defiles the body (your temple for the holy spirit) leading to spiritual possession, if you carry on in adultery, because once you lose self respect, and start to dishonor self respect, you perhaps lose your will for doing what is good.
Plus adultery then becomes an addiction, just like drugs people get caught in adultery and are allways looking for that climax that simulation can bring. Personaly i feal demons love to experience a person sinning whilst they are possessing them, and have to get the person to do sins that defile the body to possess them.

I couldnt imagine Jesus smoking a pack of ciggerettes with a six pack of bear, and perhaps falling for the temptation to have the best climax of sex whilst drunk stoned on canibis or on an all time high from other drugs. I know alot of people get plastered on drink or drugs and then have sex, (ive worked in a night club, as a bar man and watched so many people just about become anybodies game for sex after drink and drugs, and the type of sex they woudnt normaly have, after becoming simulated with drink or drugs from a night out,. there are indications that getting heavily drunk is a sin. so perhaps smoking ciggerette should be too as it is a filthy habbit just like adultery it leads to a filthy attitude after the self respect is lost in an person, from the will of a person being broken.

Hi @Dino246, sorry for my spelling mistakes. thankyou for the correction, i do appreciate it :). Cigarettes is a filthy habit just like filthy sex. Cigarettes have no respect for your body, as it leads to discease of your body. filthy sex also leads to discease of your self respect.

Where do i get the idea that cigarettes defile the 5 sences of the body you asked.

firstly have you ever smoked ? because you would know, only after a few days of stopping smoking, all of a sudden you start to smell a discusting smell on people who have just had a cigarette. Its wierd because you dont smell it whislt you where smoking.

Why does this happen ? it must have something to do with your smelling receptors becoming clogged with nicotene.

The study indicates cigarette smoke suppresses a protein that causes the natural death of mucus-producing cells in the airways of bronchitis patients. Cigarette smoking has been linked with overproduction of mucus associated with chronic bronchitis.

Smoking is known to harm your sinuses in your ears nose and throat,

smoking is known to cause Catarrh

Catarrh is a build-up of mucus in an airway or cavity of the body.
It usually affects the back of the nose, the throat or the sinuses (air-filled cavities in the bones of the face).
It's often temporary, but some people experience it for months or years. This is known as chronic catarrh.
Catarrh can be a nuisance and may be difficult to get rid of, but it's not harmful and there are treatments available.
Symptoms associated with catarrh

Catarrh can lead to a:
constant need to clear your throat
feeling that your throat is blocked
blocked or stuffy nose that you cannot clear
runny nose
feeling of mucus running down the back of your throat
persistent cough
headache or facial pain
reduced sense of smell and taste
crackling sensation in your ear and some temporary hearing loss
These problems can be frustrating to live with and may affect your sleep, making you feel tired.
Treatments for catarrh

Catarrh will often pass in a few days or weeks as the condition that causes it improves.
There are things you can try at home to relieve your symptoms, such as:
avoiding things that trigger your symptoms, such as allergens or smoky places
taking sips of cold water when you feel the need to clear your throat – constantly clearing your throat may make things worse
using a saline nasal rinse several times a day – these can be bought from a pharmacy or made at home with half a teaspoon of salt in a pint of boiled water that's been left to cool
avoiding warm, dry atmospheres, such as places with air conditioning and car heating systems – placing plants or bowls of water in a room may help to keep the air humid
staying well hydrated
talking to a pharmacist about suitable over-the-counter medicines – including decongestants, antihistamines or steroid nasal sprays
There are also several remedies, such as herbal medicines, available from health shops and pharmacies that claim to treat catarrh.
Some people find these helpful, but there's generally little scientific evidence to suggest they work.
The ear nose and throat are linked to your five sences, eyes taste hearing touch etc.

@Dino246 you asked how smoking can lead to demon possession.

We need are five sences clean for many many reasons. to alert us of danger mostly our mind and brain needs to be clean. (Filth is a magnet for filth)
Have you seen what just one cigarette does to a piece of cotton wool. ? if youve not, put a piece of cotton wool in a bottle and fill it full of cigarette smoke.

Oh forget to mention the best cure to remove catarrh is a bit of salt water down the nose everyday with your head tilted backwards (a very small amount like five ml through a syringe. and of cause stopping smoking.

I can't stand cigarettes, but it's not because of nicotine or tobacco. There's a lot more garbage in those cancer sticks than that.
At the very least, smoking can be a sin- I think if you're doing it in a way that's inconsiderate to others it is.
Other than that, overconsumption of pretty much anything is bad for you.

The fact that there are other blights on humanity does not in any way discount the blight of cigarettes.

I think Paul might have said that while nothing one puts in their body makes it unclean, it might not be good for you. That sin comes out of the human heart. - Jeremiah 17:9
