The order of events is:
1) End of the Jewish Tribulation that started in the first century
Then Jesus refers to the sun and moon, as per Joel.
Then the sign of Jesus in heaven.
Then a period of mourning.
This whole period we have no real idea of the length of, and rightly so, as the date of Jesus' return is unknown.
So going back to Joel.
12 Yet even now, says the Lord,
return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
13 rend your hearts and not your clothing.
Return to the Lord, your God,
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love,
and relents from punishing.
14 Who knows whether he will not turn and relent,
and leave a blessing behind him,
a grain offering and a drink offering
for the Lord, your God?
No-one has any idea of how long we need to mourn, collectively as Jews, to apologize and make good with God.
Could be 50 years, could be 500. I have no idea.
