Paul had a vision on the road to Damascus of a light in Acts chapter 9. The people with him could audibly hear Jesus speaking.
Acts 9:7 (KJV)
7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
And Jesus made it clear He will be with us always even to the end of the Earth (Matthew 28:20). In a sense Jesus is always here because He's God.
I think what we refer to as the second coming is the time Jesus will come back in bodily form to set up residence on the Earth and so much more.
I think Jesus appears in person twice to the Church. Once immediately after his resurrection, once at the wrap-up.
This is what Paul means by second appearance I think.
The expression 'Second Coming' just seems plain incorrect
as Jesus also comes back in judgment.
Obviously whenever he returns in judgment he is not physically appearing to those who look for him!
Once we understand the difference between appearance and coming,
then various confusing passages can be cleared up i think.
How so? Isn't it the appearance of the true Christ that will make people understand the other one was false?
The truth needs to be shown so all know who and what they worshiped as "god".
Again I ask, what possible event could reveal the antichrist as a false God to all prior to the second coming?
Why 'event'?
The Church knows he is the AC so they could demonstrate that he is not Jesus, for instance.
Simplest way would be to allow him to kill us.

But the rest of the people are deceived and won't listen to them. It takes a special event to make the deceived realize that they had been lied to. That is the second coming.
I'm not sure why Jesus has to reveal the nature of the
AC to the unbelieving as they head towards their gnashing and wailing.
Besides, if Christians being executed by the 'Messiah' doesn't convince them,
then they will be a bit beyond help methinks.
I'm not even sure if 2 Thessalonians2 even refers to a future event
It's just what happens. They believe the antichrist is God but they will find out that he isn't.
But if they weren't partial to the truth before, why does it matter to learn the truth at this point?
Does the light of the sun care about the darkness it dissipates? The truth happens, regardless of whom might witness it.
Cool. I think you are looking at this passage through Ray-Bans, as it is becoming
increasingly obvious to me that it is a First century event Paul is describing here.
Cool. No, Paul is not describing events that have already happened. The Antichrist, the last one, has not appeared yet nor has the Great Tribulation started nor have the two prophets been killed and lie dead in Jerusalem for 3.5 days nor raise back to life and rise into the heavens. Preterism is literally scriptural terrorism.
