Hello everyone,

I have a question to ask as to whether or not I should do something.

I would like to provide the following

1) context
2) information
3) my question

(I’ll have more than this I think, but it’s the basic framework (if that’s the right word) I guess.

I would also like to explain things in a simple manner (my apologies if it comes off as so blunt to the point where it’s condescending)

I doubt my whole post is explained simply, but anyway,

Today I took an exam.
The test was an AP Exam.
AP is a trademark and program by the CollegeBoard.
The CollegeBoard basically is like a big(ish) organization
(They’re the ones who make and administer the SAT).

Oversimplified, but true, the examination went like this:

1) section 1
2) break time
3) section 2

Today during testing, I saw water bottles out.

According to “May I bring something to eat or drink on exam day?”
“You are not permitted to bring food or drink, including bottled water, into the exam room (unless approved as an accommodation by College Board’s Services for Students with Disabilities office). During the 10-minute break between Sections 1 and 2 of the exam, with the proctor’s permission, you can leave the exam room to get a drink of water or a snack”

According to section 1a, part iii, of the AP Exam Terms and Conditions,
We may not bring to the test prohibited items, and
“Food or drink” are prohibited items.

Now, the issue, of course, is about cheating, as opposed to rules themselves. I don’t want to be a legalist here,
but we all (I’m assuming all the people in the room taking the exam did so) signed testing documents in which I believe at least one of the documents had us agree to the terms and conditions (I don’t think the terms and conditions were listed, but I think reading beforehand the terms and conditions is mentioned somewhere on the CollegeBoard website at least).

I’m sure there were people who worked hard and put in time and effort in preparation for the AP Exam. Even if I’ll probably be a little sad if my score will end up disqualified, I don’t want a lot of us (I saw a lot of water bottles) to get our exam scores disqualified.

But then again, integrity, honesty, and also rules agreed to being rules agreed to right?

Under “Exam Security” under “In Case of Security Breach,”

it says “If you discover or suspect any issues related to the security of your school’s exams, call the ETS Office of Testing Integrity (OTI) immediately.”

There’s more I’m concerned with but maybe I should leave it here for now.

Anyway, what do you guys think I should do?

You don't make it clear whether or not you took bottled water into the exam room against exam security rules.

I believe I and others did not follow the correct procedures. Maybe it’s okay because the proctor didn’t care? I doubt it though.

Hey guys, adding on my post,
I wanna go to sleep,
So I won’t go too in depth with this message
But I should probably ask about this, or else I’ll have a hard time sleeping tonight and my conscience will be bothers if I don’t ask.
Maybe someone will answer while I’m asleep.

Also, I hope you guys don’t mind me dropping a third thing here.
I’ll probably stop going online tonight after this, but,
I think at least one, maybe two students broke this rule (which is under “Breaks”)

“Remember, whether it is during breaks or after the exam, you must not communicate anything to anyone, including your classmates and your teachers, about the multiple-choice content that appeared on your AP Exam.”

I have no idea what you should do.

why dont you just wait for the exam result like everyone else.

if you took a sip of water in your break and then went back and did your exam thats fine.
if people took, water bottles in, then they must have got permission from the proctor to do so. dont worry about them. You are not the proctor. They didnt need to ask YOU.

Sorry if I quoted you and you don’t want to read and/or respond but,
It’s probably worth mentioning some extra information here:

1) I live in the United States
2) Take everything that I say with a grain of salt, I think it’s better to provide a general gist than shoot for 100% accuracy in this case
3) AP Classes are basically a way to earn either both college credit and high school credit (before college) at the same time, or just college credit (before college).
4) You would have to do well enough on your AP Exam (and also pass the class itself) to earn college credit
5) Your AP Exam score does not affect your grade
6) If I pass my AP Chemistry class but it turns out I did poorly on my AP Chemistry exam, I’ll still get the high school credit but it’s possible that the college I go to won’t accept my score and won’t grant me college credit
7) When I say earning college credit in high school, that basically means like skipping classes in college.
8) We won’t get our AP Exam scores for this school year until like July 2021
9) Good AP Exam scores might save people a lot of money

While getting into a college with an AP Exam score that was a result of cheating is probably wrong [or even getting to skip classes with AP Exam scores that were a result of cheating], I wonder how other activities that violate what the CollegeBoard seems to want will or will not affect whether or not our scores will be disqualified (whether on a more individual level or everyone in that room that I was with who was testing) or not.

[btw I edited in that bracketed bit up there, I rlly haven’t been reading the entirety of what a quote says when people quote me]

Do your best to get the highest score possible and don't worry so much if someone brought an unauthorized bottle of water to the exam room.

You can't change the score from yesterday so I would focus on the task at hand which is the next exam.
