Have you ever been taught this doctrine which recurs again and again in scripture ? And should the church still believe the same doctrine ?

“ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

For ye were sometimes darkness,

but now are ye light in the Lord:

walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:1-14, 17-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it seems like we’re losing the message and hearing “ nothing really applies anymore doesn’t matter about all that stuff your saved “

I mean the message from the churches in the world of course I’ve only been to several but I’m in need of a denomination that believes the message taught to the church in the Bible , is the message that they believe today .

Hi pilgrimshope,

I am sure there are many, in fact I'm positive there are churches out there where the word is preached faithfully and its members faithfully living their lives for Jesus. Are they perfect..no. Are you?

I think we've all heard this:

"If you find the perfect church, don't go to it as you'l ruin it".

food for thought ;)

Well notice when he starts his message tol the church the first thing he says is walk in love this is important and is the reason he began this message with that. You know the fruits and the spirit of any believer by the love they show it is embedded in their hearts and so they are naturally guided in the ways of the Lord however we do fall and stumble sometimes we even go through storms of sinfulness
He speaks of all the sin and darkness in this passage to express the importance of right living it isn't that in grace and love these things don't matter it is that in grace and love they are all the more important to pay attention to

We are tuaght in this passage to remain is spiritual council whether that be with each other singing songs and hyms basically remaining in his company at all times because these things creep up on us

I think we are still to believe we just have to have an understanding of what is actually being said.

However as far as denominations go there is no one right denomination or church that fully embraces what the message speaks sadly I was never blessed with a church I could call home regardless of their denominations however I would suggest forget about denominations. Denominations are nothing more than a seperation of the body of Christ a division implamented by the enemy for he knows war tactics divide and conquer even non denomination is in itself a denomination ironically

Personally I call myself a Christian or a child of God I stand with no denimation only with Christ finding a church that you are seelking is not about it's denomination it is about the spirit of the church the heart of it and if you seek you will find if you knock the door will be opened if you ask you will receive my advice is to be in deep communication with God soak in his presence his love and his warmth ask him to guide you to a church that teaches and lives in this spirit

I think it comes down to the worlds version of love and Gods version.

The world's version is often all grace and no truth.. so there is no boundaries. Or it is all truth and no grace.. and there is no mercy.

'Truth' though not being the bible's truth but akin to ethics.

Gods love though is grace and truth combined. Grace as the underpinning foundation, truth as the boundaries to respond to the grace given.

Truth in this case being not ethics but objective truth from the bible.

There are still churches that are prepared to give the meat of the Word, with an emphasis on Jesus love as no 1, but there are many that compromise the Word to show a kind of love, but it's not real.

Wow, I was raised on similar sermons based upon these Scriptures. I was fortunate growing up and being a part of the [church] life and seeing first hand when preachers were "fire and brimstone." Whew, them were the days. Their intention was to save souls. Church meetings bigger than your sanctuary so you're all squeezed in a tent. When you were part of a church connected to summer retreat and turn a nice camping spot into a Church Week of being in a Christian environment 24/7 for 6 days and 5 evenings. It set off Revivals as the churches left camp and went back to their home Church. God moves when His people are [hungry for Him]. And then, you get to do it every year as you grow up. I am so thankful God is deeply grounded within me. He's the difference Maker in everything.

Are people properly fearing God or should they? What is the correct way to gear God? Maybe this will get you thinking why people do some of those things mentioned in Ephesians 5 with no guilty or remorse.

The issue is ' Lordship Salvation ' . This false teaching takes all those verses you cited and more and they do not know how to explain the components of salvation. How we are saved . One side accuses the other of ' greasey grace ' and the other or ' antinomianism ' . This has always been the issue . " how can we clean up the church " , " give them more rules " , give them fear " . The good news of the Gospel is hidden in many reformed , Pentecostal, methodist, COE, charismatic churches due to Lordship salvation.

Before you get to those verses Paul always taught them first at the beginning of the letter ( even those rascals at corinth ) who they are in christ . Paul never avoided telling them their position before God . That they were eternally secure in christ . That they were sealed unto the day of redemption. Then after this, came the exhortation to live the reality of their position . Many churches have no clue about this ,and precede to barely touch on the beginning of the letter and go straight to preaching on the ' warnings and rebuke ' . This is disaterous to the body who are manipulated by guilt and fear , and creates a unsettled and ungrounded church who become moved away from the hope to come . They may be the best givers and attendees but for all the wrong reasons .

The results of some of those meetings sparked Revivals. People would get to Church early and it would be standing room only 30 minutes before Service was scheduled. People discussing the Word, others at their seats and on their knees bowed to God in prayer, all there [expecting] God to move. And boy did He ever. The Worship alone broke us as the Spirit flooded us. The Preaching had us up and down and completely involved. God was in full control. The [Closing and opportunity to pray] became a stampede of hungry souls crying out for God.

If you think that is boring, someone needs to check your vitals.

The best part of those Fire and Brimmy sermons were who showed up. When Revival kicked off you would suddenly get 2 Churches involved and soon some others. You're now having sermons by multiple [Leaders] of God with the {same} goal in mind back then, to preach Christ unto Salvation His Death-Burial-Resurrection. Then we would fellowship. We brought potluck meals. We sat down together and ate together. I loved those days. Wished I could relive them again.

Jesus said I did not come to judge the world but to save it

i witnessed a lot of those so called revival meetings also. What we saw in the long run was a lot of people acted through emotion in the moment, but soon. Many of those so called converts walked away, cause it was all emotion and no meat, a lot of reaction based on fear.and not truth.

we are supposed to do what Jesus did, he taught by example and by love, that’s why he affected the personal lives of those he touched.

Well, Churches not rooted in the Word never find reason to let themselves be free in God anyways. I remember people in and out the churches. Drunk one day, jail the next, back in last pew on Sunday. My Grandfather would still feed him, give him money, tell him God loves him. But until that person completely accepts Christ's invite, they will play church all their life. Our job is still to [serve] them!

Yes serve them in love

thats why the hellfire and brimestone messages continually caused my church to prety much fade, to much judgment not enough love, it never really recovered from that even after we fired the pastor. It was sad to see

The Church I grew up in was considered a [Bible Teaching] (not always preaching) kind of Church. So sermons were fun. My Grandfather's Mother was Jewish whose lineage can be traced back to 70 A.D. My Grandfather spoke natural Yiddish/the olde style Yiddish. He knew the Torah/Tanakh in depth. A [rare gem] when you normally get that "knowledge" from a Synagogue. My Grandfather broke the Hebrew documentations into English and taught more than he preached. He was sought after his knowledge. But when he preached, it was like thunder and lightning. You know, Fire and brimstone!
