They were saved of course . But not through believing the Gospel the way we understand it today. In the same way they were not saved the same way as Noah . Always through faith but not appropriated the same way .
It is the same in that they heard, believed, and obeyed :) Just as Noah did ;)

For those Christians who believe we do not need to discipline ourselves to obey the law because the law won't save need to read this verse.

The Lord gives us a way to manage the sin that our being human creates, but we are to also live in repentance of that sort of life.

Unlike the O.T. Hebrews, with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the Christian now has the ability to fulfil the law. I'm referring to the law given to Moses - the ten commandments. Those laws are still good, and a Believer keeps them, as a result of living a holy and righteous life, walking in the Spirit of God. If a Christian is not in line with those commandments, they should be alarmed.

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall make no idols.
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
  4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet.

Jesus fulfilled the law so that it is inoperable today. The law was to drive Israel to faith .

There is no ' good news ' ( Gospel) today without the death ,burial and resurrection. They were not preaching this good news ( Gospel) prior to the cross.

This verse comes to mind. I do not understand the end - "everyone is forcing his way into it".

Luk 16:16 "The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

My advice is to read the Bible, when you come to one of those terms, use the literary context, and break out the concordance. And most of all stop listening to Charles Cooper, ( and any one who has anything to do with moody Bible School.) he is making stuff up.

Thanks for your concern. I am in my Bible software and the Word for hours daily. I only seek the truth, which means error sorts itself out eventually, hopefully quickly. This is why I love discussion boards.

The gospel is that through Christ we may live forever. They did not understand, it is true, but through the blood (we know now it was the blood of Christ) they could live forever. It did not become complete for them, they only slept until Christ was crucified, but at that time they were made alive and walked the streets as it tells us in MAtt. 27:52.

So you say there were only 500 righteous people in the whole of the time from Adam to John the Baptist?

I'll tell you what I find interesting. Read the things that the Saints of old wrote; the church fathers. Read what Polycarp, Justin Martyr, athanasius, Augustine, Martin Luther, wrote. Read the Augsburg confessions. It's very interesting to know how they understood scripture, and how they expressed their understanding.

And this one , where the Gospel of the kingdom will again be preached during the tribulation.
Matthew 24:14
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

I was amazed to find in the third chapter of 1 Peter that the Lord likened the water that saved Noah in the ark to our water baptism.

Then you misread. Peter is making the Ark the parallel. The water killed everyone . The Ark saved them through the water . The water did not save anyone . The Ark protected them from the water . Jesus protects people from the wrath / judgment to come just like the passover did .

Salvation is always by grace thru faith in all periods.

The gospel preached to Noah was that he had to show his faith by doing a work, which is building the ark (Hebrews 11:7).

The gospel that is preached to us now is that we can show our faith by trusting in Christ's work on the cross, without works (Romans 4:5)

The gospel of the kingdom that will be preached in the age to come, which is the Tribulation, is that we can show our faith by doing various works, such as rejecting the mark of the beast (Revelation 20:4), and feeding and giving shelter to the persecuted Jews (Matthew 25:31-46), enduring to the end (Matthew 24:13) etc

TLDR: In this period of grace, its easiest to be saved. Don't wait until the Tribulation to be saved.

Yes, here is that crown of life. Thank you, I thought that is what he meant, but so many disagree with me.

Rev 2:10 ...be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Exactly! It is called practicing good Hermeneutics or the harmony of scripture. Meaning the Bible does not have any errors or contradictions. It flows like a masterful sheet of music in perfect harmony. The notes are within key and play like a dramatic love story between God and mankind. Filled with sacrifice, betrayal, an antagonist, protagonist, love, joy, sadness, despair, hope, and a happy ending. Reading in context helps to understand what is going on around individual scriptures, but on a broader scale, it will harmonize with the whole of scripture.

Thanks for so succinctly answering the initial questions, and telling the truth about the Church going through the Tribulation. I think that's why most Christians avoid the kingdom of God references; they're being taught we go straight from our living room sofa to Heaven before the Tribulation begins.

So beautifully conveyed! That He chose us to see it, to share in it, is both humbling and weighty.

I don't think he believes the church goes through the tribulation? The bible does not teach that.

.
There is no scripture that disagrees with scripture, for it all comes from the same God who is eternal and does not change. We are told the faith without works is dead. Romans 4:5 does not disagree with that, but it tells us works are counted as righteousness. It does not say not to work, it says that we are not saved by our works but by our faith.

I am supposing the following is why you think the Church avoids the time of Tribulation. Let me know if not.

If the Tribulation is God's Wrath, and the Church won't go through it because they are promised to be spared from His Wrath, then why are the people who "have the testimony of Jesus Christ" the ones being targeted and killed during the Trib, but those who took the Mark are untouched by His Wrath?

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I anticipate you may respond that Satan is killing the Saints, not God. Then by default the Tribulation cannot be God's Wrath. He doesn't kill His own Children, that's been the sole domain of the devil. He certainly doesn't leave evildoers untouched by His Wrath; the armies of those who took the Mark are still there at His Second Coming ready to fight Him! This is when He delivers His Wrath, everything prior is Satan's work.

Look what atrocities Satan did to Job exercising his own power, that God allowed him to use, and look what God did to the wicked during Noah and Lot's time - destroyed every one of them. The earth will know when God's Wrath hits, and none of His Children will be on the receiving end when that happens, so the Tribulation cannot be the same as God's Wrath.

Rev 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
