Not quite ;) I said, according to the experts of the law, Jesus broke the Sabbath ;) Obviously the Lord of the Sabbath did not break the Sabbath :D The point I was making was that those who put great emphasis on the law to the exclusion of more important matters of faith are in the wrong. And of course we see a lot of that here with law pushers and you-must-keep-the-Sabbath sayers :rolleyes::oops:

The Sabbath has always pointed to our resting in the completed work of Jesus :):)
Your correct. Thank you

I will share something here today because I believe it is important. Me and my wife started to keep the commandments about four years ago but I always struggled with the Sabbath day commandment because at that time my wife was working every second Saturday. We prayed to God to change her boss' heart but it never happened, but by God's mercy He opened a door and my wife quit her job. We are still keeping God's commandments but sometimes I falter and have to repent. We are all guilty and none of us are blameless. God will deal with us all individually and if you are not convicted to keep the Sabbath after hearing from Abba Father himself then don't do it. How can I try to judge you on it? . . . .
I found Sabbath in the Bible at the age of 14 while attending a church organization that did not do Sabbath. I asked there why we didn't do Sabbath, and they didn't know. When I finally asked one of their ministers, he got very nervous (I didn't expect that!) but could not answer. I kept asking and seeking the answer. In about 1995, where I lived, I found a community that taught and observed Sabbath but I did not start attending regularly until the very last days of 1999. It was a breath of fresh air. They were such good, feet-on-the-ground people who made it clear continuously that we did the Sabbath and the rest of the 10 simply because we love G_D: it would earn us no brownie points. THAT was what I was looking for, and I'm still there.

Another stinking sabbath thread? You could not go to the one of many threads of pretty much the same name?

ps, I do not follow a Sunday sabbath, amy sabbath is resting in Christ, day by day,

no one really follows the sabbath as required by the law,

exodus 31

The Sabbath Law
12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 13 “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies[b] you. 14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who [c]profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ”

18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God

so how many of you 7th day sabbath keepers keep this law to the T, how many sinners have you executed because they did work on Saturday?
I guess I do because I make it easy on myself. :D I love the Sabbath. I run around like that proverbial headless chicken on Preparation Day, making sure everything is done, then at twilight, my husband often calls me out on the front porch to watch twilight -- so often breath-takingly gorgeous (it even was during the fires, which was unexpected). Then we just settle peacefully into Sabbath -- just the two of us. In the morning, he gets up and goes to the service, but I snooze some more, then I go. He stays there well after twilight, but I no longer drive after dark, so I go home immediately after twilight. All this makes it quite easy to observe Sabbath. I love the day, being with the others -- singing, praying, studying, listening, reading, studying some more . . . ! It is so good! So beautiful and restful. So I do it, Eternally-gratefull, but I had never really thought that through until just now. I don't resent it; I just enjoy it.

God's Sabbath day of rest is relevant to God's elect Christians, right until his return, meeting God's raptured live and resurrected elect Christians in the clouds, immediately after the great tribulation, before the marriage supper of the bride with her Bridegroom:

Matthew 24 (New King James Version)
20And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 29Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His [d]elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 38For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken ("to the clouds in heaven") and the other left ("behind on earth for destruction"). 41Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken ("to the clouds in heaven") and the other left ("behind on earth for destruction").

Christian are dead to the law, so sabbath keeping does not apply.

Rom 7:4 So that, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of the Christ, for your becoming another's, who out of the dead was raised up, that we might bear fruit to God;

Do we do as Jesus's custom was to keep sabbath?
Christians should understand clearly that Jesus of Nazareth was a Hebrew of Hebrews, and a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, and David. Therefore He was under the requirements of the Old covenant -- the Law of Moses. And because He was the perfect, sinless Man, He observed all the commandments perfectly. Therefore He also observed or kept the Sabbath under the Law. But when He died on the cross, He brought the Old Covenant to an end and established the New Covenant with His blood.

At the same time, since He is Lord of the Sabbath, He made the meaning of the Sabbath clear to all the Jews. And then He rose again ON THE MORROW AFTER THE SABBATH. Therefore He established the first day of the week -- the Lord's Day -- as the day for Christian worship, rest, and good works.

And that is why Paul said that holy days, new moons, and sabbaths were the shadows. Christ is the reality, and believers are to rest in Him. He is our eternal rest.

We can choose to do as they did and keep the sabbath in that way if we choose but Jesus became our sabbath, we are called to worship him in spirit and in truth this is not a one day thing we do this with our hearts and souls everyday, we do not have to earn our salvation or keep certain traditions to keep our salvation neither do we have to condemn ourselves for every sin we make as we are to rest in his grace

His love and his strength is shown by our lack thereof so resting on the sabbath is a choice but we should rest in him everyday. As for sunday vs saturday it is neither and both technically as soon as sunday begins to the Jews this instantly became the next day but to us it is still saturday our solar calendar is very different from theirs

Who instituted the Christian Church, and was it before Mathew 24, where Christ Yeshua still refers to the Sabbath as relevant until his return?

Matthew 16 (New King James Version)
18And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not [g]prevail against it.

2 Peter 3 (New King James Version)
Be Steadfast
14Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
17You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

2 Peter 3 (English Standard Version)
Final Words
14Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Matthew 24 has no application to the Church. Also, Christ anticipated the existence of the nation of Israel at the time of His Second Coming, therefore the sabbath would be relevant at that time. Today Israel does observe the Sabbath even though it is a secular a nation-state. But after 70 AD only unsaved Jews observed the Sabbath, not Christians. Below are the laws in modern Israel.

What are the Laws of Sabbath Observance?
This is one of the most complex areas of Jewish religious law and a full answer is out of the scope of this article. However, in ordinary terms there are several main concepts with practical application to tourists:
  • It is forbidden to work.
  • It is forbidden to switch electricity on and off.
  • It is forbidden to travel in vehicles.
  • It is forbidden to cook food (although we do eat hot food).
  • It is one day a week dedicated to religious contemplation, taking stock of our daily grind and for meaningful interaction with family and friends.

I know you have said this before, I have said it and others have said it. I have also posted questions that these day keepers never answer. They are bent on a day. I prefer the Lord, and am glad to see that there are some who like myself worship the Lord in spirit and in truth, rather than days or mountains or temples.

Amen! Even when modern day sabbatarians set out to "keep the sabbath day," are they truly keeping the sabbath? To "keep the sabbath" as it was required in the Old Testament under old covenant law involved compliance with specific regulations (Exodus 16:23; 35:3; Leviticus 23:32; Jeremiah 17:21) that were strictly enforced.

If sabbath day observances are still required under the law, then so would the burnt offerings which went along with them (Leviticus 19:30; 23:2-3; Numbers 28:1-10; 29:39-40; I Chronicles. 23:30-31; II Chronicles 31:2-4; Isaiah 1:13). So no kindling a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath (Exodus 35:3). Every man must remain in his place on the sabbath (Exodus 16:29). No trading (Amos 8:5). No marketing (Nehemiah 10:31; 13:15,19). *These were commanded by God to Israel (Exodus 35:1).

If keeping the sabbath day is still in affect, then why don't sabbatarians seek to obey ALL that the LORD commanded? How can a person keep a certain law when he keeps only part of it? If keeping the sabbath day is still in effect today, then according to Exodus 31:12-18; 35:1-3; and Numbers 15:32-36, anyone who profaned the Sabbath was put to death and any person who does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from his people. Are sabbatarians today going to enforce that? Since we do not live under a theocratic state as ancient Israel did under the old covenant, no sabbatarian today can live consistently under these Mosaic regulations.

Salvation is not by grace plus law, faith plus works, but is by grace through faith, not works. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Galatians 2:16 - knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
Why are you bringing up the old covenant when we are under the new covenant now? That is scripture, just as the old covenant is scripture. We are to listen to ALL scripture, that means we are now under a new covenant.

Under the old covenant they were given laws in stone, laws as rules, and it wasn't told to them that the true law always contains love. We are under the new covenant, the same law is given but in our hearts. You cannot now obey the rules if you eliminate love. That has always been true, but now it is spelled out for us.

the church is not orthodox Jews, the Sabbath has required things to be done to keep it, if you broke it once you can never unbreak what you have broken, there is only judgement. So the judgement must be done for when you broke the law of the sabbath. IF you are accepting the atonement that is provided by the Lord Jesus You are to follow HIM. YOU can not return to the law to be in right standing with God because you broke it and can no longer be justified by following the law again. YOU must come to the Father by way of the Son not the law. You are guilty by the law . Are you saved by what Jesus did or are you using Jesus to now keep the law you broke before you accepted Redemption ? which is it?
Good point.
We can not keep the law to make ourselves right with God. Stealing, Lying, having other Gods are all sins according to the LAW. So the law points out our sins and Jesus redeems us from them by faith.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Rom 7:8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

Is Sin Still alive today? Yes
The Law is still convicting people of sin.

Do we use Jesus and His grace as an excuse to keep sinning? No

Jesus came to free us from sin.. Not to save us in sin. Jesus is more then able to forgive us but that does not give us a licence to continue in sin.

Psa 51:9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

No law = no sin
No sin = no saviour needed

No Law = no need for Jesus today

Do we do as Jesus's custom was to keep sabbath? Luke4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Do we follow fourth commandment that says remember the Sabbath to keep it holy or forget it? Are we to follow mans tradition which is Sunday worship? Are we part of same perpetual covenant sabbath as Israel as some imply? Or are we free from all this through life in Christ in new covenant? Your beliefs with biblical evidence please and also if I left out any other beliefs in Christianity feel free to share.
Acts 20:7
7And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them,

1 Cor 16:1-2
Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

It is well documented that the 1st century Christians met on the first day of the week (Sunday) as soon as the first churches were planted by Paul. This was their custom.

Therefore why would you feel comfortable making a statement that worshipping on Sunday is man's tradition? Did you not know about these verses? Do you now feel ashamed of calling it mans tradition? Do you feel the need to apologize to the apostle Paul?

It is ok to be wrong as long as you are willing to admit it and learn from it.

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

We have a seven day week today?
When God blesses something what does it mean?
When God Sanctifies something what does it mean?

Over time people have tried to change the week to 10 days and it has failed. God's seven day week is still kept today, and we can believe it is a coincidence or it is Gods hand over it.

When God said He would do something He wasn't unfaithful on His part. Often we do not live up to the conditions on our side, but God is never slack concerning His promises. 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward,
Bless = to confer or invoke divine favour upon; ask God to look favourably on.
God did this to the 7th day.

To sanctify something is to set it aside for holy use, and the seventh day was sanctified for a reason. The other days were not sanctified, and this time might not seem any different from the rest of the week but it is the same with a rainbow. some look at it and see it as a result of nature, but some look at it and see the gift God gave to promise that no flood would ever come on the earth again. If you Claim the promise and appreciate the Lords goodness, the rainbow means a lot more then just a natural wonder.

The same with the Sabbath,,, if it is nothing to you, then the blessing that God wants to give will not be appreciated.

This is twisting scripture
On the first day of the week Paul asked them to lay in store money or there tithe so there wasn't any gathering when he did come. it didn't mean he came on the 1st day and even if he did, the law (moral 10) wasn't changed. Preaching on any day of the week doesn't make that day holy or sanctified. Only God can sanctify a day and the only day that i know that God sanctified and blessed was the seventh day at creation before sin.
