Do we do as Jesus's custom was to keep sabbath? Luke4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Do we follow fourth commandment that says remember the Sabbath to keep it holy or forget it? Are we to follow mans tradition which is Sunday worship? Are we part of same perpetual covenant sabbath as Israel as some imply? Or are we free from all this through life in Christ in new covenant? Your beliefs with biblical evidence please and also if I left out any other beliefs in Christianity feel free to share.

Jesus was Lord of the Sabbath and I believe the event you were talking about was him healing a woman of her affliction. And the hypocrites always tried to slander Jesus.

"According to the experts at the time" but the law of the Lord requires love. You could not keep the Sabbath without love, as not helping others or allowing people to be hungry would do. According to the experts He broke the law, according to the Father he did not.

Those terms are not mutually exclusive. Why is Sunday worship excluding of keeping the Sabbath? I see no command in the bible to specifically worship on the Sabbath. I see a command to rest, and not to do any regular labour, and to remember. And men are to always worship God, at all times. So I fail to see any dichotomy.

Its that fourth command God wrote with his finger that said remember Sabbath keep it holy and yes Saturday is seventh day of week. The Sabbath keeping Jews haven't forgot its from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. Its a time of rest so all your attention can be focused on Lord.

the church is not orthodox Jews, the Sabbath has required things to be done to keep it, if you broke it once you can never unbreak what you have broken, there is only judgement. So the judgement must be done for when you broke the law of the sabbath. IF you are accepting the atonement that is provided by the Lord Jesus You are to follow HIM. YOU can not return to the law to be in right standing with God because you broke it and can no longer be justified by following the law again. YOU must come to the Father by way of the Son not the law. You are guilty by the law . Are you saved by what Jesus did or are you using Jesus to now keep the law you broke before you accepted Redemption ? which is it?

I'm so glad you brought that up, Magenta! So many do not know about this. Messiah did not follow the things their lawyers had added to G_D's Law (or Torah), and not complying was not a sin.

We cannot add to G_D's Law and expect to be blessed by doing that or think that those who do not obey those added laws are wrong. G_D clearly says not to add to his Law. It was those who added to the Torah, and those who accused people who did not comply with added laws, who sinned. There's just nothing like the pot calling kettle sooty.

(I can't help but be reminded of when the church I was brought up in demanded that their members could not wear jewelry that touched their skin. Not in the Bible. So they excommunicated me for wearing a wedding band! :D)

Nyaaaa. He never broke the Sabbath Law -- He was not a sinner. :)

The sabbath has so much significance in the bible. It is a sign to remind us that we are created beings and of God being our creator. And after the death of Jesus on the cross. It is also now sign of redemption aswell. We were bought twice by creation and redemption. And when we look to the 10 commandments, we see that 8 of the commandments are probitions for us to not be dependent on humans to not place our trust in humans. For example You shall have no other gods, You shall not kill. You shall not steal. God is telling is through the fundamental law and the law of nature the principle of taking and giving. The other two commandments is where we get the principle of take in order to give. The fourth commandment is the commandment to take and the fifth commandment to honor your parents is the commandment to give. We cannot honor our parents, if we have claims and expectations from them. We ought to give to them without any expectations. For example in nature. If we look to apple tree. If starts off from a small seed and the seed takes from its surroundings. The seed take water from river, nutritions from the earth and sunshine from the sun. The seed grows up to apple tree and gives fruit when it has matured. The apple tree than gives freely. And cannot control who takes of the fruit. We see everything in nature does nothing for itself. Everything in the universe takes in order to give. But the error after the fall is that we give to receive, the opposite of the requirement of the law. We see through the fundamental law how deep the error is in our hearts.

Amen! Even when modern day sabbatarians set out to "keep the sabbath day," are they truly keeping the sabbath? To "keep the sabbath" as it was required in the Old Testament under old covenant law involved compliance with specific regulations (Exodus 16:23; 35:3; Leviticus 23:32; Jeremiah 17:21) that were strictly enforced.

If sabbath day observances are still required under the law, then so would the burnt offerings which went along with them (Leviticus 19:30; 23:2-3; Numbers 28:1-10; 29:39-40; I Chronicles. 23:30-31; II Chronicles 31:2-4; Isaiah 1:13). So no kindling a fire in any of your dwellings on the sabbath (Exodus 35:3). Every man must remain in his place on the sabbath (Exodus 16:29). No trading (Amos 8:5). No marketing (Nehemiah 10:31; 13:15,19). *These were commanded by God to Israel (Exodus 35:1).

If keeping the sabbath day is still in affect, then why don't sabbatarians seek to obey ALL that the LORD commanded? How can a person keep a certain law when he keeps only part of it? If keeping the sabbath day is still in effect today, then according to Exodus 31:12-18; 35:1-3; and Numbers 15:32-36, anyone who profaned the Sabbath was put to death and any person who does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from his people. Are sabbatarians today going to enforce that? Since we do not live under a theocratic state as ancient Israel did under the old covenant, no sabbatarian today can live consistently under these Mosaic regulations.

Salvation is not by grace plus law, faith plus works, but is by grace through faith, not works. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Galatians 2:16 - knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

We have to remember that the Pharisees did not judge Jesus with the Torah but with the Talmud. Talmud is man made laws and that is why they couldn't stand Jesus. He always took them back to Torah.

Hi brother Dan, as I understand it we can't comply with the ceremonial laws today because we don't have the temple anymore (or tabernacle for that matter). We have to now adhere to the moral laws (ten commandments) but still do it in love without judgment. God bless my friend :)

I will share something here today because I believe it is important. Me and my wife started to keep the commandments about four years ago but I always struggled with the Sabbath day commandment because at that time my wife was working every second Saturday. We prayed to God to change her boss' heart but it never happened, but by God's mercy He opened a door and my wife quit her job. We are still keeping God's commandments but sometimes I falter and have to repent. We are all guilty and none of us are blameless. God will deal with us all individually and if you are not convicted to keep the Sabbath after hearing from Abba Father himself then don't do it. How can I try to judge you on it? Maybe God is directing my life in a different direction than yours for a reason. I can't judge because I am guilty. The Bible teach us that. We need to minister in love and if it so happen that you can encourage a fellow child of God you will be blessed. Don't discourage one another. Pray for wisdom and God will answer you my friends. He is amazing and I love Him. I hope that we can all sit at His feet one day and share our testimonies.

Another stinking sabbath thread? You could not go to the one of many threads of pretty much the same name?

ps, I do not follow a Sunday sabbath, amy sabbath is resting in Christ, day by day,

no one really follows the sabbath as required by the law,

exodus 31

The Sabbath Law
12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 13 “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies[b] you. 14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who [c]profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. so how many of you 7th day sabbath keepers keep this law to the T, how many sinners have you executed because they did work on Saturday?

This is the way we should be, judge not lest we ourselves be judged,

the Bible specifically says we are not to judge concerning sabbaths,

if it is in your heart to not work on Saterday, God bless you, if you would work against you conscious it would be sinl

and no one should judge you because you feel you are obedient because you believe in your heart saterday is a day of rest we should still follow

we are to love one another as God loved us, judging people over these things is well stupid and ungodly there it is said it.

I have no beef with people who believe Saturday is a day of rest, I actually try to rest that day myself, although I can not always do it.

my beef is with those who want to judge people who do not believe it, and want to push that law to Moses on them
