Figured it might be fun to get to asking on here about furries, if you don’t know about furries, then you are warned, stuff I will talk about will get weird, but for those of you who already know or don’t want to live “under the rock of not knowing about furries”, let’s move along to explaining:

So furries have been around since 1970s, it started off as something underground but is now a subculture, you are considered a furry if you have an interest in Anthropomorphic animal characters, think of some of the animal characters from animated movies, like Disney’s animated Robin Hood movie, all the characters are considered to be Anthropomorphic animals, since they walk on two legs and act like humans. The furry fandom on the Internet is basically known for being weird, and being into sexual stuff. Not saying this is everyone, but it is a common internet stereotype to associate furries with most of them making porn art of animals or get “really attracted” to animals. I don’t judge, you can live life how you want to and I know not all furries are the same, but there is a reason why it is a common internet stereotype.

Furries also have fursuits and will sometimes have “fursonas”, they pretend to act as their animal character, it’s used for Role playing such as Internet forums, online videogames, etc.

I ask because I just legitimately want to know if there is a Christian that would consider themselves a Furry, not to be mean, but I just know the fandom is so...well wacky for a lack of better terms, so I just want to see what someone’s experience of being a furry and a Christian could be like, or if they gave up on being a furry and became a Christian, or if there are people on here that know furries in real life. My brother is actually friends with one, and my brother says while he is a bit weird, he’s a cool guy.

Also, I just want to stress, please don’t come into this thread to trash furries. Not saying that cause I want to defend them, but just knowing what I have seen on YouTube, read on Wikipedia, and seeing people talk about furries on various Internet forums, it could be very possible that some of them have been bullied, or are mentally ill/disabled, or embrace that “Screw society, I’m living life the way I want to” attitude. We as Christians have to love everyone, that includes the people who consider themselves the “social outcasts”, cause I used to think of myself as a social outcast, and you do get this view of “Screw reality, I hate reality”, and you use escapism to leave reality. Media isn’t bad, but when you use it to escape reality constantly, then that is dangerous and very unhealthy.

If you want to know more, here’s Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom

And a very helpful YouTube video that goes more in-depth on the history of furries:

(I actually really recommend the “Down the Rabbit Hole” series on Youtube, very interesting and fun stuff to watch)

I just realized I need to clear some things up, when I said people can live life they way they want to, I am against zoophiles and think they probably need mental help, but I know they can change and be forgiven if they come to God, they will definitely have consequences for their past sins, but I just try to live life without constantly judging others, cause that is how I used to live life, and I want to change, through God’s strength, not my own. For who am I to judge? I have messed up plenty in life.

That’s what I was trying to lean more towards, I hope that clears up any problems my statements may have caused, if you want to see evidence of Furries being against zoophiles, go read the YouTube comments in this video:

Edit: I would also like to point out that I don’t watch this youtuber’s videos anymore, it’s not he is bad, but his “deep Internet dives” have made me learn stuff...I might have been better off not knowing, lol. He is cool, but sometimes you gotta say “This is enough learning for one day”, lol.

Edit: I actually want to add, that 1st YouTube video I post in the OP, it does contain some sexual images, they are all censored, but still throwing out a warning cause I know there are people who are sensitive/don’t like that stuff, it didn’t feel right to have a warning, so here’s the warning.

First: "Furries" are not automatically perverts.

Fur suits are kind of like puppets or ventriloquist dummies, except they wear them instead of hold them. They all allow the user to act out a part of his personality that normally doesn't get much air time, a side of himself that people would think odd to display without the puppet, dummy or fursuit.

Yeah, some people have made it REALLY weird by developing strange fetishes around fursuits. But for people who think all furries are like that, it is the same as saying all people who have guns must be murderers.

Obligatory xkcd comic:
skins.png

There's a Reddit drama between the people who want to wear skinsuits over their fursuits and the ones who just want to take off the fursuits.

Agreed, it is interesting to know about that Reddit drama.

But yeah, that is a problem with nerd cultures/fandoms, that the minority ruin the image of a culture. Like for anime, there’s the stereotype of being into Hentai or people assuming you are a Weeaboo, for Videogames it’s the stereotype of people thinking you are only into first person shooters and think you might end up shooting a school or some other violent thing, and that’s all I have for examples right now, trying to think but nothing is coming up, lol. But yeah, like you mentioned with Guns, people just assume the worst because when people act the worst, they will always be louder than the honest and calm people, in my opinion.

The only two furry's that I have are my two cats Tango and Sugar. I really don't consider them to be my friends but they are friendly though. Sometimes when I feed them I get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside but do not consider myself to be a furry. There is a difference between fuzzy and furry. Being a furry or associating with them is not what I am about. Regarding that warm and fuzzy feeling, it is certainly fleeting. I must say though that when I was young lad I enjoyed the Saturday morning cartoons and hanging out with my furry friends. The thing is, I don't find that stuff amusing anymore.

"To everything there is a season". We were created in the image of God, in His likeness, a completely separate order of the Creation than the animal kingdom, ever since then the devil has tried to subvert the created order, get things confused.

two of my 4 furries consider themselves people and would like the opportunity to discuss that if possible

they are polite but opportunistic furries and I apologize for them considering this yet another opportunity to address these beliefs, but they made me type this

frankly, I personally believe if you shed, you are a legitimate furry

if not, you have an identity crisis and my dogs want to know if you would like the phone # for their vet?

Furries are international and have been for some time now. So they're certainly in Canada. It's just not a mainstream culture.

Yep, they started off as underground, with conventions and the underground comic scene making them popular, according to the 1st YouTube video I linked, it appears they probably exploded into popularity in the 1990s and 2000s when internet got a lot better at connecting with others to share art and get people to make fursuits.

Since it seems people on here might be slightly confused, here are some photos of furries I found I google, meaning I don’t know anyone in these photos:

A3CFC59D-4452-40B1-98D9-6348347A2AC8.jpeg

82D4472E-45EF-41FD-8E1B-CB6753780D9C.jpeg

Some people actually make their own fursuits, so there is a bit of arts to the whole fursuits overall. I believe people can be whatever they want to be, as long as they are not hurting others or doing evil. Most furries just want to enjoy their suits and conventions, or at least that’s the vibe I get when watching videos on various furry stuff. All I had to do was type “Furry” to get these images, so Furry definitely means this fandom, and not when talking about pets.

I don't know any Furries...but I do know many, many furry-faced fellas.
Does that count?

It‘s not that hard to notice all of the bearded humans roaming around these days? It’s like an unofficial Lumberjack Invasion with a twist of cool-metro- hair-flare trend has hit the States full force? (Facial hair and man ponytails galore surrounds us/U.S.) I am a little ashamed to admit that I can not grow decent face chops, so everyday in awe I watch many beards going about their business and I often wonder the backstory to each beard strand that gracefully —yet somehow ruggedly—blows in the wind. It’s sad to witness many men are forced to hold back these trendy bushels of individual “statements” behind a face mask during these uncertain times. (Luckily most of them have unruly neck-crop overflow hair that extends past the mask to let us know there is indeed a face beast that is forced to be caged)

Do you remember * “Hands Across America”?
(mid 80’s — charity event?—Hands held across the U.S.? )
Last month I borrowed the idea and tried to put together a “Beards Across America” event.
(for a good cause of course) We set our facial hair plan in motion to stretch across the U.S ...but unfortunately I only had 17 guys sign up and we barely made a line down my driveway and 2 steps onto the sidewalk. (Enough money was raised for some beard shampoo and conditioner for the participants. No beards were harmed in the process)

Like me trying to grow a half Grizzly Adams/ half ZZ Top inspired chin masterpiece...it failed miserably.
Idk, maybe attempting to braid all of the beards together was a bit too ambitious on my part?

It didn’t matter, due to the quarantine and social distancing rules we got shut (and cut) down.
I hope TPTB realize that a bearded nation will not stay silent forever.

(Actually one could say the Beard Movement is...growing. 😉)

*Hands Across America©️ was a respected charitable event that helped a lot of people. Please take note—in no way am I trying to take away from the amazing things it accomplished with this childish U.S. beard invasion joke above. I’m merely stating (in joke form ) my concern for Beard Trends, how it impacts society and what will eventually happen the day the hair clippers come out to trim.

Hmm, I would say that’s more of a “Beard fandom” than a “Furry fandom”, unless you have someone who believes they have a Fursona (Like a Wolf, fish creature, etc.) and has a fursuit, like I showed earlier, then those people can count I think.

But I don’t consider myself a furry, I like Anthrophoromic animals (I like adding animal ears to characters I draw, like if I draw a cat girl, dog person, etc. , Zootopia was AMAZING) but I don’t consider myself a furry since I don’t believe in having a Fursona and don’t have a fursuit.

The only thing I’m aware of for the “Beard fandom” is the “Movember” month (I think I spelled it right) where you grow a mustache to show support, but that stuff you mentioned sounds cool.

...never in a million years would I imagine myself saying “Beard Fandom” but here we are, LOL XD

...more like a Beard obsession? 🤔
Just doing my part to raise Beard Awareness.

Just to be clear....? (in this PC world we live in)
You don’t identify as a “furry”?

I never assume now—I want to be 100% correct.

Question?
Sometimes when l get up and off my cousins couch, there is so much dog and cat hair stuck to my clothes that I could possibly pass as a furry.

Does that count?

No you would have to read posts number 13 and number 1 to know what “Furry” means.

No I don’t identify as being furry, I have dead hair that falls off of me, so I like to say I shed, but I don’t think I’m actually a dog or an Umbreon for that matter. I love Umbreon, but I know I am human, LOL

With that question you asked, no I wouldn’t call that being “Furry” but “Covered in hair”, lol.

So I did a quick search on Fandom, and this is what it means:

A Fandom is a subculture composed of fanscharacterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. Fans typically are interested in even minor details of the objects of their fandom and spend a significant portion of their time and energy involved with their interest, often as a part of a social network with particular practices (a fandom); this is what differentiates "fannish" (fandom-affiliated) fans from those with only a casual interest.

According to Wikipedia anyway, so Fandoms are where the words “Trekies”, “Brony”, “Pegasusister”, “Tolknite”, etc. come from. If that makes sense, you could argue that there is a “Beard Fandom” cause if it is like it’s own culture, with words only people into beards would understand, then yeah it could be considered a Culture.

When you are into the Internet as much as I am, you just learn “Internet Speak/Memes” very easily. I don’t say that I’m Otaku, but just a nerd, since I’m into a lot of nerd stuff. Yeah thanks for sharing stuff to share beard awareness, don’t they have competitions to design the best looking beards? Or something like that? I just know I have seen quite the crazy beards, with how they are styled, you could honestly call it art.

I want to add, if you read post 1, you could call me a furry, but I left it vague in post 1 cause I honestly wasn’t sure if people on here knew what furries are.

I just don’t see myself as a Furry because I don’t go to Furry conventions, don’t have a fursuit, don’t have a Fursona, and don’t have any interest into getting into the furry conventions, fursuits, Fursonas, etc.

I like Antro animals, and that’s it. Basically most of my human animals don’t even look like animals, they just have animal ears, and that’s honestly it. Go look at my Deer human drawing I did in the Creative thread to understand what I am trying to say.

uh no is it only people who wear onesies.
I dont know anyone who wears them although they could be wearing them as pyjamas and I wouldnt know.
I knew someone who was really into zumba though and they would have costume zumba parties sometimes, but, Im not really into zumba or dressing up all the time, and getting my photo taken and it being put on facebooks or insta.

the bearded thing not really getting but its you choice if you want to look like gandalf or the hobbits.
most people look like themselves although there is a trend to dye your hair bright blue, pink or green.

Not sure why. Maybe normal hair color is just too boring for some people.
