God said to the Man (Adam):
Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV)
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every (1) tree of the garden thou mayest freely (2) eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day (3) that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Woman (Eve) said God said:
Genesis 3:2-3 (KJV)
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit (4) of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it (5), lest ye die.
Very interesting.....when comparing the two, it made me consider how we "interpret" scripture.......there's what God said and how we understand what God said.......interesting to ponder the two.
We really need to know exactly what God SAID AND what exactly did God MEAN when He said what He said.
It reminds me of how we need all 3 - knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

I also notice how God said "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" but, Eve said "the tree in the midst of the garden".........
Both trees - "knowledge of good and evil" and tree of "Life" were in the midst of the garden.
We know that Eve was deceived but, Adam was not......interesting.
Thanks, @pjrousseau I've enjoyed your question!
