Hey guys. I'm thinking about signing up for online counseling with a licensed therapist. It's for depression anxiety substance abuse etc issues. It's expensive like $45 a week expensive though so Idk if I want to do it yet. I was wondering if anyone on here has any thoughts on it. Like is it a good idea, bad idea...?

Online Christian counselling by a Registered or Licensed therapist who is a Believer will cost you roughly $100/hr. “$45 per week” is quite unspecific. Referring to $45/week says nothing about how many minutes you will be in each session.

Online counselling MAY be effective for the treatment issues you are mentioning, it may not. Studies regarding the efficacy (effectiveness) of online therapy are contradictory and some therapists would say inconclusive to varying degrees. Although, more and more people are anecdotally claiming it works for them! As a Registered Christian Psychotherapist since 2009, I have been serving Christians in a few continents for years via online encrypted web conferencing and many of those I have serve speak well of the results.

Be prayerfully wise and discerning in the Counsellor you pick and remember that face-to-face is almost always better when you can find the right person than online!

I get bad social anxiety in certain situations and talking to a counselor would be one so I would probably just never go to a counselor if I had to see them face to face

"I believe many so called 'online counseling' assistance asking for $$ for their 'counseling'
is about the $$ more so than a person's real life problems. Book educated 'counseling' is just
that, which may have benefits but personal experience of someone that has found God and
turned their lives around , shall be considered more personal and intimate relationship with
anyone that is really going through life altering problems. One should consider just how troubling
ones issues are, and if truly serious about a life change to improve ones life."

Thank you Bingo. I think there is value to be had in both but time face to face for in depth counseling is better than the impersonal online style. The therapeutic value of one person with a problem help in another is unparcelled and again like at 12 step meetings there is much value in finding or becoming a sponsor. Most counselors also recommend group counseling and/or 12 step meetings on a regular basis like a minimum once a week. She was on CRA recently and we started getting a little busy there. We miss you @Bingo please come back soon.

I have bad anxiety sometimes so going to a therapist would be really stressful and cost more money just now isn’t a good time. I have had police called on me when I try to talk to people in person so that’s not good and I can’t talk to friends.

If I knew what city you lived in I could come up with some referral's for you. Many meetings are free however they pass the basket to pay for rent and coffee. There are others there who are just 1 step ahead of you. they will most like you to introduce yourself. Just say hi I'm (any name you choose) then just sit and listen if you can and that's how it starts. My PM is open for all members and the word anonymous means what I hear, stays here.

Have you called and confirmed it is $45/week? Are they licensed and fully accredited Therapists?
Idk that’s what it says online. I’m thinking about doing a non religious therapist site though now. I feel like maybe I need to separate the religious side of things and my mental and substance abuse problems. I’ve tried talking to Christians about stuff before but it has never helped because it always seems religious based and not like practical every day ways to fix things idk.

That's a mistake, imo. I can give you a good, professional, Christian Counsellor's name (who does Online sessions). Male or female and any age preference?

"You have stated a good point. One should get right with their mental and substance abuse problems,
otherwise from a 'religious' point may in fact be a confusing dilemma. Religion is not a cure all in this
day and age. Having counseled with many, I have learned real life experiences in coping with these
issues often carry more weight than 'preaching'. I hope you chose wisely."

Well In regards to preaching goes I tend to agree but a Christ centered counselor would be better than a confused atheist or agnostic in my opinion. Only a Doctor like a Psychiatrist can prescribe meds. Psychologists cannot..

I tend to oppose most organized religions' myself. To many man made doctrines, not enough bible. The Lord is Lord all of the time or he isn't at all.

I can not and will not compartmentalize God any more. I've repented from that mistake/sin..

"Being Christ centered helps to be focused on the aspects of living life according to the
'principles' of Christ teachings, which are indispensable in any attempt of counseling of
those seeking 'help'."

Thank you. I see a clear distinction between religious based and Christ centered. The man made religions are as faulty as the men who made them up. The Bible is the only text that I find trustworthy in regards to the natures of God and mankind.

personal experience, there is no substitute."
