We don't know what Jesus looked like .. I'm glad it's that way
For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.

As others have pointed out, what race Jesus was isn't as important as what He did for us.

Again Jesus was a Jew, not a white man. And apparently he's never heard of the Civil War, many white men died to free black men.

With out that Jewish Jesus on the cross nothing else matters. The dying are lost without His death.

No, it's an actual death. Just because Africa is rife with leaders that abuse it's people has no bearing on Jesus and the Gospel.

Wow, and this is a bishop?! No concept about the Bible whatsoever.

Ahh so he's racist, got it.

Well he can start talking about Jesus, there are free black men and women all over the world.

He's persuasive if you don't know the gospel. That's why it's important for us to tell the world about Jesus.
I am a black woman who believes that Jesus died on the cross to save humanity from it's sinful state. but how can I convince a black person holding on to the image of Jesus being depicted as a white man?

Let us kindly engage in a manner that will bring glory to God.[/QUOTE]

As I said, during the Civil War many white people died for black people to have their freedom. But Jesus was a Jew, so I don't see why there should be an issue. [/QUOTE]
Yes he is persuasive to those who don't know the truth and his message will attract bitter people as well as those who are not saved.

The pictures of Jesus being white poses a great problem. Jesus is of a Jewish descent. I also think the image of Jesus should be changed to that of a Jewish person.

I see the Bishop as an antichrist.

Jesus is depicted as a white man and that poses a challenge when trying to present the Jewish Jesus.
A "white Jesus" is just A LAME EXCUSE. It would not matter whether Jesus was white, black, brown, yellow, or red. The Christ-haters and Christian-haters would always have an excuse for hating the Truth.

It is truly pathetic -- and even the blacks are now laughing at the whites -- as to how "White Guilt" is making fools out of so many all around the world. And it all boils down to one word -- COWARDICE. Caucasians have become cowards and compromisers because they have abandoned the Jesus of the Bible. And some blacks have become RACE BULLIES because they know that they can get away with their nonsense today.

People should be standing up to BLM and Antifa and telling them that their radical Anarchism is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and they must be prosecuted for their hate crimes.

Jesus wasn't "white". While it's unfortunate that Europeans have portrayed Jesus as European, the truth is that His outward appearance is irrelevant. Sadly the person who preached the message you quoted (Desmond Tutu, I suspect) didn't seem to understand that, and sought to elevate the suffering of Africans above that of other peoples. Why? Does he believe that the blood of Jesus is truly insufficient? If so, then he has no business being a "bishop" and should shuck his robes... and his megaphone.

How do you reach someone who holds a misconception about the ethnicity of Jesus? The same way you reach someone who holds any other misconception that keeps them away from Him: by prayer and the preaching of the Gospel. :)
His name is Maponga.

There is only one race, the human race. Ethnicity is something else.

It was God who scattered the peoples and gave them different languages.
We usually use "race"when referring to our differences. Ethnicity is the way to go. I am really enlightened.

I honestly think in this day and climate, changing Jesus to Jew might be more offensive than making him black. Honestly I think the concept of white Jesus is more anti- Jew in it's history than anti-black.

The Bishop is an anti-Christ, no doubt about that. I think we should try changing the image of Jesus to that of a Jewish descent. It's something that can be changed and we can always take it back if it doesn't bring any change.

We experiment on many things and try to see if they will solve a problem. What's stopping us from experimenting on these one ?

I just have compassion on those who will not be convincted by preaching the word of God.

Some people were moved by the character of some Christians, hence they got saved.

Jesus was a Jew and that is a fact. Getting angry will not change the fact that he was a Jew.

I can get angry at a white woman just because she is white but that will not change the fact that she is white.

God's revealed written Word says there is neither Jew nor Greek in Him. Does it serve the body of Christ to say He is still"looks" Jewish? Was His appearance not so greatly changed post-resurrection that even those who knew Him well did not readily recognize Him?

The Cherokee being one of the largest
With the Gospel of Christ. It is the power of God unto salvation, Romans 1:16.

While you're digging up something else to use, let us all know what this new gospel is when you find it.

Nor should we minimize the fact that Blacks enslaved more whites than blacks have ever been enslaved.

Worldwide.

Black still enslave blacks.

Native Americans enslaved blacks.

Blacks sold blacks to whites.

Let's stop the cherry picking, it is to have an unjust balance as Scripture says. Proverbs 11:1.
Most of the tribes in the trail of tears had African slaves. Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole — also participated in the institution of slavery. Cherokee being one of the largest in numbers had about 2000 go with them on the trail of tears.

But the evil democrat white men forced them to relocate. True the trail of tears was terrible but the Indians equally have had their scars. Before Europeans even arrived, they was busy killing and enslaving each other while sacrificing slaves to their gods.

So how does one present a case against someone who has been disturbed by the misrepresentation of Jesus?
What kind of problem does the fact that many Jewish people look white present?

This is what we can expect to see in the future:

Revelation
1:14 His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire;
1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.

Thanks for that info. Never thought about it that way.

Is it many or just a few?
We have many dark skinned Africans and a few light skinned Africans.

Yep. I'm surprised at how many today look at them as if they were born again because of their spirituality, and as if they were innocent victims.

As for the past, this should suffice:

Isaiah
53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him.
53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

I hope I can catch your heartbeat - I can tell you have been set free and love your Jesus - but it is difficult to know how to reach others of your race.

It is unfortunate and very, very sad that a lot of what this Bishop says is true: white Europeans and Americans have exploited, killed, and enslaved the blacks of Africa. I nor anyone else should deny or minimize that in any way.

But I think the key is to make a difference between white culture and Christianity: they are two very different things. Sadly over the years (and even up to today) sometimes some of American and European Christendom has followed and amplified the ways and bigotry of white, privileged culture.

But it is not so with true Christianity. There are whites who have sacrificed and given their lives to get the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ to Africa. The church in Africa now is alive and real: probably more so than the church in America!

If this bishop waits till "the crimes of the white man" are rectified, this will not happen. The gospel and the crimes of the white culture are two separate things. The crimes of the white culture are the result of sin coming into the world. The gospel of Jesus was given to rectify the sin problem.

The church in American must be real, must love, must share the message of the cross with all around them. And so must each individual who is part of God's kingdom. Only a life of love lived for God's glory is going to reach the heart of a man like this "bishop".

Marching and protesting and burning and looting to try to rectify the sin problem will only make it worse. The answer is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I do not think the major issue is Jesus being portrayed as a white man: the issue is if the church is not loving and being real for God's kingdom. Let this bishop find a Christian who really loves and loves from the heart and the color that Jesus is portrayed as will become irrelevant.
Wokeity-woke-woke.

every artist wants Jesus to look like them. But Jesus was an hebrew.

Most childrens book illustrators get it right but the big churches with relgious paitnings dont because patrons of the arts pay huge amounts of money to get biblical art created for them and they use their own settings, so you have weird pictures of Biblical characters in european settings and european dress, looking like pale vampires that havent seen much sun.

for people who cant or dont read, they then get the wrong ideas. But that is their problem as they dont know the truth if they are only looking at pictures and images and not hearing the Word.

That is why God actually said not to make graven images of Him.

Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, Who is Himself God and has made Him known. Jesus also said, "If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him." Do you see something wrong with imagining what Jesus may have looked like - or looks like now? We are not to worship such images, to be sure :) Trying to get rid of all the images of Jesus circulating in the world would likely be an unsuccessful endeavor, though.

I think the stick figure Bibles work best.
You can also read ones where everyone looks like a lego, or minecraft. if people then get the idea that Jesus only came to save the lego pieces well...dont know what to say about that.
