Every flu season people undergoing chemotherapy as treatment for cancer.....this whole social distancing thing is nothing new. Chemo hammers the body's immune system and people are incredibly at risk from viral infections like seasonal flu. Someone undergoing chemo is urged to avoid large gatherings and to be hyper hygenic, handwashing and all the rest...especially after contact with anyone or anything in public....face masks and gloves are often used.
Now though....we've prescribed these measures for everyone, even though its looking like 99% of the population doesn't need them....those who are younger and otherwise healthy don't need to be hyper vigilant based on all currently available information, it looks like a healthy immune system is all that's needed to combat the novel coronavirus in the vast majority of cases.
So instead of prescribing measures in a politically correct fashion, requiring everyone to adopt hyper vigilant behaviours (at risk of penalty of law) why not focus efforts at protecting those who are genuinely at risk? Elderly and health compromised individuals have no antibodies and no vaccine to bolster diminished immune systems.....and its killing them in droves.
