Over the years many things have been thought to be that mark. The UPC code on products as I recall was first. Then it was posited that the UPC mark on products could later be transferred into a national ID tattoo.
Then when chip implants in our pets made news, the idea the mark was that chip started up. Now there are cell phones with the SIM card, and it is the same theory only instead of an implantation it is a matter of tracking.
I think if the MotB was that crucial to avoid, the early church fathers that oversaw forming the canon should have left alone those parts of scripture that described what the mark was so that we'd know. God isn't vague.

This kind of conspiracy nonsense is based on vile ignorance and twisting of Scripture out of context. It is literalizing what probably is symbolic.

If a crime happens they will know who was in the area, and how close they were to the crime scene, and can find lost children, and locate people for whatever purpose if they want to get a hold of them.
The chip is the mark of the beast for when they take the mark they know of the beast's agenda that there is no personal God, and it is all about mankind, which is why the beast kingdom is known as Babylon for she represents the kingdom of man, but physical Babylon will never have dominion again, but she has not fallen yet for Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and the Roman Empire has not fallen yet for their ways are still on earth, and they fall when Jesus puts down the beast kingdom and are found no more.

The number 666 is the number of a man, a certain man, the New Age Christ, man of sin.

The occult believes in the power of numbers, and the adding, timing, and grouping of numbers, which they believe gives them more power.
They believe the number of man is 6, or the soul of man, so the man of sin assigned the number 666 to himself, a triple 6 which he believes will give him more power to be able to be able to establish his kingdom and no foe can stop him.
But someone taking a chip for a purpose before the New Age Christ claims to be God does not count as the mark of the beast for worship of the beast and knowing his agenda comes before taking the mark of the beast which then repentance and salvation are no longer available to them.
If a person took the chip for a medical condition it is not the mark of the beast, or for any other purpose besides following the New Age Christ it is not the mark of the beast, for no one will say worship me and take the mark of the beast but the New Age Christ.

In my opinion, it is a physical mark of some sort. Biblically, it may also appear to be a physical mark when it actually may be a spiritual mark of some sort. It does seem to be inconclusive either way. One thing is for sure though, you will know what it is either way and must make a decision either way to accept the mark or refuse the mark. Either way, there are serious implications but of course, as a Christian you must refuse the mark and willingly accept the consequences.

I think most doctrines are established in Genesis .And the one that seems to have been made into a sign and wonder that one would seek after as a source of faith is no foreigner .
I would offer we must be careful how we hear what we say we hear from Him not seen who works in us when looking to the unseen eternal understanding of the parables from Revelation or any book..

Those who sell the gospel seeing no value in the holy things of God not seen (called faith) But rather putting their trust in what the eyes see as the three avenues spoken of in 1 John 2. The lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the product... . false pride. 1 John 2:16
The mark of God's word is simply the mark of Cain .Like Esau solf the truth of the gospel for temporal pleasures . God marking unbelievers as those who have no desire to do the will of God. That desire as a favor was given to Able the first recorded martyr.
Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. Geneisis 4: 14-15

First of all, believers in Christ will not be here when the mark becomes the only way of buying and selling. Regardless of the current controversies, the Lord is going to appear and gather His church prior to the first seal being opened. He is not going to leave His bride on the earth to be exposed to God's wrath which is when the mark of the beast will become manditory. Regardless of what the mark ends up being, from the scripture we can know that it will be in/on the right hand or forehead. The scripture also tells us that without the mark no one would be able to buy or sell.
When the Lord first called me, I was immediately drawn to end-time event and therefore the book of Revelation and all related scriptures. When the first ATM's came out I knew that this was related to the coming mark. Then came the Universal Product Code (UPC), followed by the Point of Sale system (POS), which allows people to swipe their credit and debit cards to make electronic purchases (buying and selling). This is in fact why we have been seeing the phasing out of cash and checks to make way for electronic crediting and debiting. Sweden and her sister countries are ahead of the rest of the world in that, they are already pretty much a cashless society.
As of 2015 we saw the first glimpse of the technology for the actual mark, which was a RFID chip implanted under the skin between the thumb and index finger. I believe that this will continue to evolve into something more applicable. What will remain consistent is that it will be some type of technology that will go on the hand or the forehead. People say that its not going to be a chip or anything on or in the skin. But the fact is that we already have that technology matching what the scripture literally says regarding the mark. From what I can tell, the mark will continue to evolve with that antichrist eventually being revealed with the mark technology already in place and will become the only way of buying and selling in the middle of the seven year period, which is the same time that he will cause Israel's sacrifices and offerings to cease and the setting up of the abomination in the future temple which is when he proclaims himself to be God.
The mark will be the only way of buying and selling because all of the other methods of buying and selling will be made obsolete, ergo, anyone who does not have the mark will not be able to have electronic access to perform crediting and debiting to their bank accounts. This is how the false prophet is going to "force" both great and small, rich and poor, free and slave" to receive the mark, which will be a form of worship to the first beast.
