May be, but the local people made the choice to go to Walmart and not to continue to support the local folks.
I absolutely agree.

A water front picturesque small town near me fought for years and year on having Walmart open a store nearby, they

thought it would be their doom... it actually turned out okay as the small business owners learned to adapt and offer unique items,

change their pricing and made themselves competitive, some did close but other restaurants/retailers came in.

Charge Income taxes on profits on products made in other country's. Charge import duties also. When it becomes cheaper to make thing in the USA we'll get back to work and wages will go up, Moderate inflation is the sign of a heathy economy. Interests in domestic saving will rise the buying power of the dollar will fall and banking offshore will lose profitability.
And the consumer will pay for all those added taxes and import duties so where is the benefit?

The good business men got better and those who refused to get better failed and the consumer benefited.

amazon is doing a lot of what walmart used to do. and from what i hear its a worse place to work. how can anywhere be worse than walmart? there was an amazon warehouse in memphis where a worker died (heart attack i think) and they made the other workers continue to work around her dead body until it was moved.

Well I already explained They don't have any benefits and the hours are shortened so the can't be considered a full time if the apply for disability or unemployment insurance. The benefits like health insurance for their employees families are acquired from government agencies. Thus instead of providing their employees with medical coverage for their families like every large company should, it comes from the state or feds instead. So what if they have to raise prices? If they ,it will come out of our taxes anyway. Food Stamps also because they can't afford to put good food on the table thus the government is providing what their employer should. Then since it is usually the cheapest place in town the employees sped their USDA food assistance their and Wal Mart get's paid again. It's a scam! We're paying for it now.

They don't have to work or shop at Wal Mart. True but what's the alternative? Go on welfare? People don't turn down full time work here. Perhaps your state is over generous. I think people on welfare should be put to work like in the 1930's. Unregulated trading, banking and farming was the mistake of the 20's that caused in great part of 29 and the dust bowl.
i think your explaining how they manipulate employee wage and benefits. the government subsidies is quite a bit more complex. it would have to be for the billions that get funneled through. one way it works is how walmart is always building new buildings, every time they change buildings, in a round about way, it counts as a new store, and when they open new stores they get . . .wait for it . . .cha ching!! more money, more money, (in living color remember that show haha) more money, from the government. this is money that used to be spent on schools, single moms that got left with 5 kids by that cheating husband and disabled war vets, you know, people that actually need the financial help. but now it goes to walmart, the last place that would ever need government welfare.
the store moving scam is also used for tax avoidance.
and one more problem this causes is the leftover building that no one can lease, many times it just sits vacant, what a waste.

now there are many other way, and you can see all the damage it does, that walmart scams money (gov subs)from hard working americans, this is just one of them

Where did this happen? Name the location.

If the consumers in this town did not shop at Walmart it would never happen.
Can you not see the consumers in this town are just as much to blame as Walmart.

NO ONE FORCED THEM TO SHOP AT WALMART.
It was their choice.
Everyone has a right to say what they wish but stop with it is always somebody else fault not mine.
some people believe that the choice between walmart, and doing without is not much of a choice.

But there are other choices, right?
How do these other stores' pay compare with Walmart's?
Not good enough. all the chain stores are gone except 1 Target and 1 Aldies the rest are Mom & Pop or ethnic ie Mexican or Asian grocery stores Best Buy, Sears, Office Depot are gone so is Pep Boy's. The point isn't are there places to work but how much should an employee earn to be fair? What's the employee turnover rate. Shouldn't an employee of a billion dollar corporation have more incentive than living paycheck to pay6 check with no job security. Are we turning Chinese with wage slaves???

Workers have lost the advantage they used to have like full dental without co-pay or free medical for family members of full time employees. We used to get it, I want it back!

Well this could be, false, hearsay, rumour or true, no way for me to know.....so there is no point to comment on it.

If you do not like the company then do not order from them, if you want to shop based on ethics and morals that is your choice, no one has a problem with that.

I would that think most people with a High School education and you tube would have figured that out by now. I didn't try to explain it in depth because it seemed remedial. Thanks. We could go on for hours how it's breaking the economy and family's down. Wal Mart isn't the only one but it's the most obvious. Sort of like Americans that stop worshiping God but prefer making money compared with the Israelites who worshiped the created rather than the creator. Time after time, after time...

one town used to have 4 different stores to shop, wallmart drove them out of biz, now you have a single mom with three kids and no car, the next town is 30 miles away.

where does this lady go to get bread, hamburger meat and socks?

this lady, according to you, has no right to say one thing bad about walmart because she has a choice between walmart and walking 60 miles to the next town. lol wow!

also this lady used to be able to drive to the next town but her car was repossessed when she lost her manager job at the bakery, the bakery was forced out of biz by walmart.
some people believe that the choice between walmart, and doing without is not much of a choice.
So you can not give me a city where this took place.

OK I get it now.
It is not your fault.
If it were not for Walmart and ALL those other evil companies, all you folks would be living the great life.

I clearly remember when Union workers had an advantage over non union workers and some laws were changed requiring time and a half pay for over time and holidays. Unions lost their appeal because state labor boards could be called to investigate and arbitrate between workers and employers. What happened?

Big business need to be watch by some one with the authority to enforce fair labor practice. We need economic watch dogs or we will linto a master/servant economy.

If the tear between the wealthy and the working poor keeps increasing, Word History has already proven a revolution will occur. In fact that's how the United States became united. Keep preaching capitalistic propaganda and see what happens. I wish I knew how to stop it but the people who have the power won't listen, or give up their "Champagne wishes and Caviar dreams." (Robin Leech.)

In fact one of the reasons we hold onto the second amendment is so we can defend our right's and stage an armed revolt when or if it becomes necessary. The working class will never give up that right in spite of what Socialists say or think.

You make a statement like this while all the time supporting Socialist rhetoric about the need to regulate all these evil companies.

Many of you Christians might want to read Luke 3:14 and Philippians 4:11 and examine yourselves.
I will leave you with this.

Theres nothing socialist about keeping watch to prevent tyrants from running the nation. How are we supposed to keep the one Worlders' from taking over if we don't do something drastic. I suppose you think everybody that isn't aligned with popular conservative thinking is a Socialist and that there is no balance? One way or the other? No in between? What about ECC 7:16-18?

walmart is not the only one but they have been the number one retailer for a long time and they above all others are responsible for setting the example for others to follow.
when i was young my family farmed (rice) when me and my friends were all early 20s i had a few friends that worked at kroger, i had mechanical exp (skilled labor) and always worked in shops back then, making maybe 10-12 an hr, i had 2 friends that worked at kroger, stacking dog food and running a cash register, but because they had been there since highchool making 14 an hr. thats the way kroger was back then, thats the way many places were. not how it is now, far from it. walmart is part of the reason those labor prices have been driven down so much.
