We serve God not the other way around.
Though I will spend the rest of time serving my Father in heaven.... He has done more for me than I could ever do for Him.

(not trying to argue for our purpose... just pointing out He has served His own in a way beyond what we could ever return)

Was JESUS (GOD) serving when he was washing feet.......?
I think EG meant to say "SAVE" us.

While it's true Jesus did serve some by washing feet, and ALL by dying for us, I don't think that God made us for the purpose of HIM serving us.

Nope. I meant to serve.. Think back to before the fall. God served adam and Eve in love. And he tells us to serve others in love as he served us.
I am not talking about God being our slave. But about a loving father who serves his children.

OK. I disagree with the verbiage, but I get your point.

All the good He wants to bestow on us is part and partial to the REASON He created us, which is to Glorify Himself and Fellowship.

Just reverse that.
Nope

While yes we serve God. He created us to be our loving parent. To serve us. And us reciprocate that love we receive from him to each other and back to him.

Thats why I used that word. I was hoping to get people to think.

Satan wants us to think God created us just to serve his every whim, not out of love, but as a dictator., God has defeated satans lie. Yet there are still people who believe that lie.

1COR. 2:9.
But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God has prepared for them that love Him.

MATT. 25:34.
Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom
prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

HEB. 11:16.
But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God:
for He has prepared for them a city.

REV. 22:12.
And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

LUKE 22.27
For whether is greater, he that sits at meat, or he that serves? is not he that sits at meat?
but I am among you as He That Serves.
28.
You are they which have continued with Me in My temptations.
29.
And I appoint unto you a Kingdom, as My Father has appointed unto Me;
30.
That you may eat and drink at My table in My Kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

HEB. 12.28.
Wherefore we receiving a Kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace,
whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29.
For our God is a Consuming Fire.

Hi Perfection, it's not a statement directly from the Bible, but I like what the Westminster Shorter Catechism's Q & A #1 has to say concerning this. Scripture references are included.

Q. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, (a) and to enjoy Him for ever. (b)

~Deut
So what do you think? Did God create man to the purpose He might have someone to glorify?

That is not what is presented in the Bible at all. Yes God is the loving Father of those who are His children through the New Birth. But God is the eternal King, and Christ is the eternal King. Therefore His servants will serve Him, not vice versa.

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his Kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. (Isa 9:7)

I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. (Dan 7:13,14)

I think the model of the human family comes to mind.

My wife and I had children because we desired to love them, and bestow upon them a good life. It would be weird, and I think wrong, to say we begot children to serve them.

It's true we "serve" each other in various ways, but that's not why we had them. And I think it's the same with God. I would prefer to switch the word "serve" with love. God creating us to serve us just doesn't sound right to me.

I think some lovely answers have been posted....

it pleased Him
was the WHY

and our purpose is like a mix between
brother(s) dcon and lightskin and tab said

to love Him and eachother and glorify His name and worship Him... for fellowship... as family

I do believe He serves us better than we can serve Him

but... as for our purpose I feel like it is more about our relationship.... no?

whatever the exact answer is I won't pretend to know

but I think a lot of you hit some really good points

We see serve in two different ways.

I serve my kids and my family by providing for them, loving them, and caring for them.

God served adam by giving him a wife, and all the tools necessary to do his tasks, and served him by giving him all his needs.

He asks us to do the same,, for our spouses, for our children, for our church family and everyone we meet.

This answer I feel like I don't know...

I can't argue too much if someone disagrees...

I know all the verses... and I know my Father... but I feel like this is a pretty deep question.....

Maybe He would answer it so simply in one sentence... or maybe it is something we will grow to understand more and more....

(to the op, great question)

I love and respect brother nehemiah, I feel like he has a pretty solid grasp on much of God's word even if we disagree sometimes... but I am compelled to agree with a lot of what you're saying on this topic.
