It is not our job to judge. Acquiring what one feels to be evidence before pursuing something in the Word is not stepping out in faith.
I am not sure what you mean about judging? I pass judgement on things/actions all day long. At any given moment I need to be able to discern if something is genuine, false, credible etc.,

The people in the audience are following Womacks instruction are clearly just following him and not discerning or making a sound judgement.

No. Not a joke sister. Just an illustration of how ludicrous, and yes, I would say blasphemous some in this movement are.

This is absolute UNBIBLICAL lunacy! I may not know His complete Will for my life, but what I DO know is that it ISN'T this! There may in fact be legitimate tongues being spoken somewhere, BUT this is NOT FROM GOD!

Did you watch the video? How is this defensible?
While I DO NOT agree with some of what he was saying in the video (in fact VERY SHOCKED because that's not things he normally says!)
I HAVE seen this approach used and successful behind closed doors.

Not yet but we're gonna wear 'em down!
Are you joking!? "wear 'em down" in either direction for/against is not walking in love. So did Jesus just "wear 'em down" when teaching?

My point is that people should step out in faith and pursue what the biblical record provides rather than try to ascertain whether to believe in speaking in tongues by evaluating other's experiences or lack thereof.

I do not share this to be harsh. What do you suppose this parable means? For it states that many are called, but few are chosen.

"Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
For many are called, but few are chosen." Matt 22:8-14

Jesus told people to strive to enter in at the strait (narrow) gate:
hen said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able." Luke 13:23-24

And that, "...wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matt 7:13-14

It is our duty to search out and obey Jesus' commands.
What's your point?

Of the many called few are chosen. Matt 22-14

We are called but it does not end there. All must search out what the bible shows us to do and do it. (2 Tim 3:16)

Jesus tells us that the word will be what judges us. (John 12:48)

The biblical record is about languages.

Can happen the same way in the Spirit too;) Surprises the one doing it,
This was exactly my experience. I was all by myself and never saw it coming. I did not need to be coached like the people in the video did. Why would anyone want to do that? Please tell.

Although I can't say I've changed my mind one way or the other because I was agnostic on the issue, I CAN say I have learned a lot, and have started to research and form an opinion on this whole matter because of these threads.
Tongues or languages were a sign for the Nation of Israel to repent. It is prophesied in the book of Isaiah which is quoted in and fulfilled in Acts. It was a particular message for the unbelieving Jews. The message was the same and understood by all the Jewish people from every Nation in their own language. It is not mindless babble or some mysterious language. Gifts of the Spirit of God we’re also a sign from God that Jesus was “The Anointed One” or The Christ”. Jesus was given the power and authority from His Father to do those miracles. Jesus gave His Apostles that authority as evidence or proof that they “the apostles” were eye witnesses of the the things Jesus did. The gifts of the spirit could only be passed on by the apostles, so once they died and thie last generation of the people who had been given any gifts by the apostles had died the gifts ceased with them. It is very clearly written in the bible if you bother to actually study and don’t have false preconceived ideas about what is being said

I don't know why people would want to be coached, though I have ran into people who need er uh, think they do, someone to explain what is going on while it is taking place. Sometimes when our flesh is in control we hinder what the Holy Spirit is trying to do in us. And while that flesh is in control it is easier to have someone walk you through what is going on because in the flesh it does feel silly and because MANY are afraid that if they open their mouth and some strange "tongue" comes out that they are being blasphemous, not understanding that it the Holy Spirit coming forth in them.
I would like to watch the video again (when no kids are running around and it's quiet) because I heard some things while being coached that disturbed me GREATLY! I do not know if it was said by Sid Roth (the host) or by the guest. If it was by the host, I stand by what I said before that I am shocked b/c it's not like something I've ever heard him say. If it was said by the guest, well I do not know who that person is so can not say. They have good intentions; however, there is a saying" the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Hello Petercito. Welcome to CC.
The gifts of the spirit could only be passed on by the apostles, so once they died and thie last generation of the people who had been given any gifts by the apostles had died the gifts ceased with them.
So are you saying that all these generations we've been left with out gifts?

Hello Petercito. Welcome to CC.

So are you saying that all these generations we've been left with out gifts?
Yes. In the context of the bible and the supernatural gifts as recorded in the time of Jesus and the apostles in the early congregations of believers, yes they have ceased. However, can God choose to heal a person now? Of course He can. He can do whatever He wants, when He wants. Healing etc is what we will receive in the resurrection. That’s part of our hope as Christians, ever lasting life with perfect health in a perfect new earth, free of evil people.

1 Corinthians
13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away.
13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these [is] charity.

This cessation speaks to a time yet to come, not the present.

So I did go back and rewatch listen to the video. What I thought I first heard was correct, although I'm not sure as to who said it though I think it was the host. This both SHOCKS and saddens me:eek::cry:. First off, by saying that, now they have gone from something the Holy Spirit was trying to do to using fear tactics. THIS IS NEVER OK! The Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He NEVER uses force or fear to get someone to do something.
As I have previously stated I have seen this done behind closed doors with success. HOWEVER it was done through the leading of the Holy Spirit in a loving and gentle manor with a small handful of people (3-5).

As of this posting I am no longer interested in reading/replying here. I have nothing else to say on the matter and am NOT interested in debate turned to argument/fighting. It is not our job to "beat 'em down" till they "side with us". THAT'S NOT HOW THE LORD HAS US DO THINGS!
My profile page and private message box is ALWAYS open for communication. HOWEVER: the condescending, arrogant, comments ARE NOT WELCOME and if they continue WILL BE REPORTED.

In the Greek language it makes it very clear it has ceased. Not only that if you read Acts very carefully the gifts were only received by the laying on of the hands of the Apostles of Jesus. No one else could pass on those gifts. Furthermore the speaking of tongues was prophesied about in Isaiah. It is the whole reason why there were tongues spoken about. If you are looking for answers to questions in the NT and don’t understand the origin from the OT then you don’t know your bible and you will never find the right answer.

The gift of ‘languages’ was the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy (Isaiah 28:11-13)

11Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues
God will speak to this people,
12to whom he said,
“This is the resting place, let the weary rest”;
and, “This is the place of repose”—
but they would not listen.
13So then, the word of the Lord to them will become:
Do this, do that,
a rule for this, a rule for that;
a little here, a little there—
so that as they go they will fall backward;
they will be injured and snared and captured.

1. It was intended as a final sign to Israel of the impending destruction of Jerusalem which occurred in AD70.

Supernatural ‘spiritual gifts’ were delivered exclusively through the agency of the 12 Apostles

Acts 8v18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

Other supernatural spiritual gifts were all intended to validate the Apostles’ eyewitness testimony to Jesus’ resurrection. (Mark 16:20; Acts 1:8; Acts 4:33; Heb. 2:3-4)

The circumstantial evidence is consistent with this:
1. Paul had to travel all the way to Rome to impart spiritual gifts to the Romans (Rom. 1:11).
2. Timothy’s spiritual gift was delivered through Paul’s hands: (2 Tim. 1:6).
3. Paul imparted spiritual gifts to the Ephesians (Acts 19:6).
4. There is no case in the NT where people received spiritual gifts apart from the immediate presence of one of the 12 ‘chosen eyewitnesses.’

Paul’s statement that supernatural spiritual gifts would cease to be given (1 Cor. 13:8-13).
1. Love never ‘expires’ (ἐκπίπτει {ek-pip’-to} – lit. to “fall off,” met. “fail or expire”)
2. Prophecies will be ‘cancelled’ (καταργηθήσεται {kat-ar-geh’-o} future, passive voice – lit. “will be cancelled”).
3. Tongues (languages) will ‘cease of itself’ (παύσονται {pow’-o} future, middle voice – “cease of itself.”
4. Knowledge (by direct revelation) will ‘(καταργηθήσεται {kat-ar-geh’-o} future, passive voice – lit. “will be cancelled”).

Other gifts (like healing) may have continued until the deaths of the recipients, as late as approx. AD 180

One must start at the beginning of the chapter and read the entire chapter for context.
If one believes in Jesus they will search out what He says to do and they will be born again.

As Waggles post indicated Jesus said those who believe and are baptized will be saved. Mark 16:16

Notice Jesus words below:
And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. John 12:47-50
Yep, believe mean follow His teaching. Not only believe that Jesus is God but also entrust and follow His teaching

Nev er falter in conveying truth. If it is repeated again and again, good. If you are tired of reading the truth, one side or another, either you are aware already and need not read it, or youj need to pray on it. When you are satisfied you know, you need not continue in the thread unless you believe what you have to comment is helpful for those not as blessed as you are.

If being tired of the same thread is considered accpetable , the being tired of the same Gospel wwould be considered the same, and we who believe Jesus know it is worthy of continueal reptitiion until He returns.. Prais God,amen.

Is somebody inboxing you condescending, arrogant messages?

I think you are referring to Sid Roth saying "cmon! If I had a gun in your ribs I bet you could mumble faster!"

Everything he said you were suppose to do you CANNOT find in Scripture.
It doesn't really matter if someone has an "experience" they think is from the H.S. What matters is what they said, was it interpreted, and does it in some fashion Glorify God, spread the Gospel, or edify the body.

My focus in this debate has been to illustrate that there are bad actors that are either frauds, or under some other spirit than God's. And that WE need to discern which is which.

I've posted this video from Roth before, but not sure if you've seen it. The Lord does NOT heal through assault or violence against a person. So you have to ask, if he is endorsing this type of thing, what kind of spirit is he operating under?
