You have received an incorrect understanding of what James is teaching. You cannot set one portion of scripture against another. James must agree with Jesus and James does only some have endeavored to make it seem like James is not.

Works follow salvation it is called sanctification. Works do not contribute to salvation. Salvation is by grace not by works.

The word from which we translate baptized in Acts 2:38 is the Greek word "baptizo" it means to submerge like a sunken ship. To completely immerse and leave immersed. It means Holy Spirit immersion not water immersion. If you water baptize in this fashion all would drown.

This whole subject has been litigated countless times so really there is little point in going through it again.

Holy Spirit baptism occurs only one time in the life of the believer and it never requires a secondary application. There are many fillings of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer but only one baptism and that at the moment of salvation.

Tongues were an outward evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit so that the unbelieving Jews present could not deny that Gentiles were coming to the very same Savior that the Jews had rejected.

Keep reading your scriptures and asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the truth. As for now you are making water baptism far more important than Jesus.

1) Receiving the word of God and believing God is al one work of the Holy Spirit in the twinkling of the eye.. God is not served with human hands as if he who satisfies all needed something form the clay he is forming Christ in ;

2) Water baptism of John a Levite used as a metaphor to represent the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with the baptism of the Holy Spirit Water baptism comes from a old testament ceremonial law anticipating Christ coming as the new high priest from the tribe of Ju dah officially baptized by John a Levite as the last of the new order . Introducing Christ coming as the melchedik as our high priest .Baptism of desire come when a believer has decided to become a member of the Kingdom of priests. Not all Christian are given the gift just like all Levites were not priests.

3) If you look to the old testament foundation it is described as a sign against those who mock God. So with mocking lips he speaks to this people yet for all that the sign confirms they are unbelievers (no faith)

friends i would like if someone could start a new thread for me. about this topic of baptism (water). i dont know how to host a topic dont know what to say and got nothing to offer

i notice every time its said to be in the name of Jesus in the book of acts, atleast 5 times. and only once its said to be in Father, Son and Holy Spirit name in matthew 28.

why is it like this? all churches use the matthew way, even if its only mentioned once? some say it was changed by catholics and some said that name of Jesus is just a shortened way of saying they were baptized in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit like in the early church document instructed called didache

Jesus made the following comment in John 12:48:

"He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." John 12:48

God's Word does not contradict itself.
Belief + action to whatever is expressed in scripture = total acceptance of Christ - Harmony.
Belief only - excludes the need to follow instructions given = rejection of Christ's words - Where is the harmony?

Matt 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15-16
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Jesus made the following comment in John 12:48:

"He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." John 12:48

God's Word does not contradict itself.
Belief + action to whatever is expressed in scripture = total acceptance of Christ - Harmony.
Belief only - excludes the need to follow instructions given = rejection of Christ's words - Where is the harmony?

Jesus has finished all that was required to redeem our souls. We can add nothing to what Jesus has done on our behalf. All we can do is lay aside self and receive the gift of eternal life Christ alone offers.

It's not belief alone it's grace alone. You frustrate grace when you endeavor to add to grace your works that are a filthy rags. That which is unclean cannot produce anything acceptable to God.

Philippians 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 ¶ And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Stalemate - Mexican standoff - last scene from The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.

Anyway it is Sunday here downunder and my son and I are going to our local revival meeting (about 35 minutes drive down
the road to another town) where we will enjoy:
singing our own hymns and songs;
teaching of doctrine (a good 35 minute talk from the KJV Bible);
communion service (grape juice no wine);
gifts of diversity of tongues and interpretation (no more than three of each);
gifts of prophecy (God talking again directly to his church)
prayer line where those with needs for themselves or others come to the front for prayer (many many healings and
miracles obtained through this).
Fellowship with other saints.

26 What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation.
Let all things be done for building up. 1Corinthians 14:

Yes the same faithless ones he will judge on the last day.

The harmony is in the father and son working together to bring us the peace of God that surpasses human understanding.

Belief + action is when the Holy Spirit works in us to both will and do His good pleasure. Why murmur and cause dispute as if you could see into the hearts of men and know whether they have been forgiven?

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputing: Philippians 2:13-14

Without him we can do nothing. No forgiveness .

It is no stalemate or Mexican standoff. Just those who refuse to look to the foundation of the tongues doctrine (Isaiah28) as a sign against them. Confirm the sign and the rest of the doctrine falls into place.
