There are concepts that only God can answer. As for me, my vocal cords work, and I chose to allow the Spirit of God to flow through me in obedience to His Word.
I have heard those who cannot speak pray in tongues due to being deaf.

if you look at your response which I do not take issue with even if you were responding to the following:

"Completely illogical since Christ is the center of the NT itself and center of worship even in the early church.
It is those that talk a lot about the HS who are out of balance."

Do you agree with this statement? How is talking a lot about The Holy Spirit out of balance? Did not Jesus speak to watch what you say about the Holy Spirit, not about the amount of speaking of the Holy Spirit? You do know the Holy Spirit is mentioned just about as much in the Old Testament as He is in the new?

It's called insinuations.

"You might add that the Corinthian Church, a Church filled with the gifts, even tongues, was also one of the most carnal of the Churches we read of in Scripture. (Just to add some balance lol)."
No, it is your assumption. I never said or believe or intend to convey the notion that the gifts cause carnality. Quit presuming on my part please.

Well, if somebody speaks only about the Holy Spirit, but not from Jesus i would say the focus is little bit out of Balance.
It is also not new that People sometimes give more attention to the Gift then to the Giver.

What need does it meet of other people when everyone is talking at the same time like on the view?
1. Self edification - Over zealous believers can have the tendency to speak in their personal tongues for their own edification during worship service, etc. This manifestation of tongues is derived from the Holy Ghost dwelling within ones human body after the initial infilling of the Holy Ghost. This experience is what Paul is referring to in 1 Cor 14:2: "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:..."
Paul cautions believers about everyone praying in their personal prayer languages in 1 Cor. 14:23.

2. Church body edification - When one operates in the Spiritual Gift of Tongues they speak in an unknown language which is then translated by an individual operating in the Spiritual Gift of Interpretation to edify the church body.

Among a bunch of people who all speak my native language? Just for my own selfish desire for miraculous power and or experience?

No.
We are supposed to ask for the gift of the Holy Ghost:

"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" Luke 11:13

Paul expresses that belief and the baptism of the Holy Ghost are two entirely different experiences:
"He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied." Acts 19:2-6

What language do you use in prayer.
I use English and God hears every word.
If your God does not understand English, maybe you are praying to the wrong God.
Paul expressed the concept of praying and singing in an individual's own language as well as in the God designed Spirit language:

"For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also." 1Cor. 14:14-15

Do liars tell the truth; so do you really think that those who are evil know how to give good gifts to their children?
This refers to the fact that even evil fallen men give good gifts to their children. Even more so, God who is righteous and holy is sure to give the best gift, His very own Spirit, to those of His children who ask.

aww, I thought I was going to get the basics on how to speak in tongues.

The holy spirit is given to all who are born of God, God promised this spirit as a pledge. John the baptist also said Jesus would baptise wiht the HS. This represents spiritual cleansing. It is not somethign christians pray and ask for. It happens the moment they believe.

Once the Holy SPirit baptises you, then you are annointed with the spirit. He gives gifts, Each to who he may desire.. Tongues is one of the gift he has given..

Scripture records that the Holy Ghost is NOT given at the time one believes...

God states that He will give the gift of the Holy Spirit to those who ask him:
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" Luke 11:13

An interesting truth.....Paul spoke at least 3 languages......and being educated probably 4 to 5.......in the Minimum he spoke Hebrew, Latin, Greek and probably Aramaic which is 4....

1st Corinthians 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with languages more than ye all............key word bolded ^^^^^^^^

Am behind...

13 Therefore, the person who speaks in another language should pray for the ability to interpret it.

14 For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays but my mind is not productive.

I find it very telling when one dismiss what the Word of God calls the "gifts of the Holy Spirit" by saying the gifts are not important. The truth is The Holy Spirit is the one involved therefore that makes them All important. Yet we can agree on the misuse of them but to say they are not for today is just not Biblical or true. So those opposed to "the gifts of the Holy Spirit" for today, have to only focus on the abuse by ignorant, immature, and those in error.

Then the athiest that is here hiding as Christians, use human reasoning and secular arguments and terms to discredit the word of God. the terms like Cessationists, modern tongues, and Continuationism. They have to only point out the error of the few on tv, social media, and youtube. These venues used to discredit the gifts of the Holy Spirit do not work. They are all in context to the person misusing the gifts, not the word of God. Those pseudoscientists and want to be prognosticator who use linguist and other sources to discredit the gifts of the Holy Spirit. yet they can not nor do they do with the word of God. They also look to used pagan teaching ( not the word of God) to discredit the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Yet Pentecostal doctrine teaches not to even look at such false spiritual things at all.

Yet these types want many to think that those who have Christ as Lord and Savior seeking the Gifts of the Holy Spirit never even knowing about pagan practices, God allows them to get a devil. After which they defend by saying I believe the gifts are real or were real but I have never seen it, therefore it is not real until they have their intellectual pride groomed.

You cant put bibleverses which are telling an situation and construct an universell teaching. In no other book then acts you find this. And acts was written to tell the story of the first christians and the church.
No where one single writer of the bible taught this.

I know I got the Holy Spirit, when Jesus came into my life and gave me eternal life.
