IT IS NOT A PROCESS, IT IS A FREE GIFT.

1 Peter 1:4-5 (TLB)
4 And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
5 And God, in his mighty power, will make sure that you get there safely to receive it because you are trusting him. It will be yours in that coming last day for all to see.
Grace is the free gift , Faith is the process in which we receive it .

Hi VCO,
I like to come back here every now and then because I can't believe this thread is still going on!

Eternal life is a free gift based on God's grace and because you have faith.
It's given to you through your faith.

And 1 Peter 1:4-5 is correct, of course, but just look what the last verse says:
5 And God, in his mighty power, will make sure that you get there safely to receive it because you are trusting him.

As long as we are trusting God our faith will save us.
If we stop trusting God and lose faith, we will no longer be saved.

Because if faith saves us........
Lack of faith will cause our downfall.

Hebrews 10:36
36
For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

James 1:12
12Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

I find it amazing, that God said he saved us when we were at our worse. that people think AFTER we have been adopted as a child of God, Given the HS who helps giude us, and chastens us, that we can become WORSE that we were BEFORE we were saved.

That seem to be an impossible task. It basically says GOD totally failed in growing us, they even with his inluence and power. we went backward, NOT FORWARD.
The tongue in cheek quote that is often used and manifest in some, is that "the only difference between those who have accepted Christ and have not is the fact that those who have accepted Christ have been given a license to sin."

It does not get any plainer..........Our righteous works have ZERO to do with Salvation!

English Standard Version
he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

Berean Study Bible
He saved us, not by the righteous deeds we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

Berean Literal Bible
He saved us, not by works in righteousness that we did, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

New American Standard Bible
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

King James Bible
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
This is taking a verse out of the larger context of scripture. It is why I wrote the book Pulpit Fiction: How the Modern Church is Endangering the Eternal Destiny of its Followers. What the verse you quote says, we cannot be saved of ourselves. It says nothing of being faithful after we have accepted Jesus Christ.......

The words " believe , believer , and believing , "are translated from the Greek word pisteuo . Pisteuo is used 248 times in the NT .

Pisteuo is the corresponding verb to the Greek word and noun Pistis . Pistis is used 245 times in the NT .

Pistis the noun is translated into the English language with the English word " Faith" . No problem ! But when the translators needed a corresponding verb in the English , like they do in the Greek , there wasn't one . So the translators not only needed a word that would come close in meaning , but also , it had To be a single word . So they chose the words believe , believer , and believing .

Pisteuo is a verb , an act , based upon a belief , sustained by confidence . So as you can see " belief " is one third of what true pisteuo consists of . Which taken on its own is error .

He reason I said " there is no such thing as believing ," is because in the original Greek language , they don't even have a word for believing . In the Greek , there is only faithing towards God " pisteuo " , or faithing away from God , " apisteuo " . In the Greek language , they don't even recognize a state of being where someone is only " believing " or in a neutral state . Every person ever born , is continually , every day , all day , either faithing towards God , or away from God .

The Strongs gives us a hint or disclaimer as I call it , it says : " pisteuo means NOT just to believe . "

The Vines gives us the best and most specific definition of pisteuo : " a personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such surrender . "

No mention of , " believing " other than it doesn't mean just believing .

So that's why I say there's no such thing as believing .

Everything with you is a process. Ephesians 2:8 - (AMPC) For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God. *Justification is not a process. (Romans 3:24; 5:1)

Rom 8:9 if we don't have the Spirit of Christ in us He is none of ours . If the Spirit of Christ is not ours , then Christ , His word , and His promises in His word can't be ours either .

His Spirit can only be sealed in us by Grace through Faith . Faith in application is pisteuo , . Pisteuo is a personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such . So until our surrendered life is fulfilled genuinely , tested , and accepted , Rom 8:9 is in full effect ..

So I might state this a little different but agree with the essence. Pisteo is almost always in the continuous present tense meaning it is something that must be sustained. We have the Holy Spirit to help us and scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit is a Helper, a Counselor but not a Controller. We must be faithful; we cannot have a simple intellectual acknowledgement of our Lord and what He did for us. The error of parts of the Modern Church is that it teaches intellectual an intellectual acknowledgment, not true faith. They have somehow come to the conclusion, in spite of scripture that one may have faith and yet not act with a good conscience towards God......Its the reason i wrote the book I did.

We can grieve and quench the Holy Spirit according to Scripture. Furthermore, time after time, men do not respond to God's chastening. (See Amos 4). We have the free will to submit to the Holy Spirit and the free will to oppose the Holy Spirit.

If you believe a perfect obedience in regards to the Holy spirit is what keeps you saved, you are incorrect... It will always be the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ

If being faithfull is required. Then we have to save ourselves.

So the bible can not say you can not save yourself. Only to say you have to save yourself.. That is contradictory

People who have true faith work. It is not a matter of may work.. Faith works, read Heb 11. it does not sit idle. So ALL who are saved WILL work..

This thought they might not do anything so we must legalise the gospel and put people back under law, is from satan himself.

Have you ever heard the phrase , " if God repeats something , pay extra attention .?"

God repeats the word pisteuo 248 times in the NT . The Strongs says pisteuo means NOT just to believe.

The Vines : " a personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such surrender ."

By the book understanding without my personal opinions .

Grieving a quenching him does nto mean he leave you, It just means he is griebed. As a parent, I am grieved when my kids do wrong, it does not mean I leave them and kick them out of my family.

Many believers think they do. They live the life they want. They "sin all the time". I have had direct discussions with "believers" who have actually told me they can sin all they want. This is what the Modern Church teaches, most often indirectly. It is a lie from Hell.

Your description of yourself reminds me of the gifted teachers God gives to perfect the called out ones . I've known one in 33 years , and I've been looking for them .

I don't discuss God's Word for a reason . I reserve that privilege for those who can show me it's theres to talk about .

Rosemary God is waiting for your surrendered life . A half measure will avail nothing . Not as in perfection , as in genuine .
You are dangerous to babes in Christ...
Romans 8:14-16 16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
I do not need you to tell me that I am only giving half of myself to God , I surrended all of me to Jesus when I came to the foot of the cross...
Maybe you do not post Scripture because you do not apply to Romans 8:14-16
