Hello everyone,

I'm going through a troubling time of my life. I was saved in June of this year after years of addiction and bondage. I'm currently suffering from depression and feel like I'm being attacked by the enemy. Could I please request prayer for clarity of mind and the strength to seek God at all times?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I have suffered from depression also as well as a few other members of this site so please know that you're not alone in this. I have prayed for God's will and desire to be accomplished in your life and for the cloud of depression that is hovering over you to dissipate so that you may see things more clearly.

Hey tourist,

Thanks for your message. I'm finding it particularly dehabilitating at the moment. I've not been able to go to church and I have also not gone to my bi-weekly church small group because I just can't handle it. It kinda feels like I'm becoming a recluse and I hate feeling like this.

A remedy for a very well-known Christian lady, who had been attacked by depression at the start of a world-wide tv ministry, was to do volunteer work. Through that she a ravaged young gal who had nothing and came up for prayer. Her heart went out to her and as she ministered to her she started to recover. Also, what I would do is listen to Christian messages on deliverance from depression. You need to keep in mind that God is for us and not against us. Jesus left us a peace that passeth all understanding. 'Cast down imaginations and every high thing that exhalts itself against the knowledge of God' 2 Cor 10:5.

As Abraham Lincoln once said about the horror of the civil war, "This too shall pass". He suffered from depression too.

Expect dramatic improvement over a period of time in your spiritual frame of mind. If you're not already doing so I highly recommend that you talk to God each day as if you are in a normal conversation because in reality you are.

In the first book of Isaiah God speaks, "Come now, and let us reason together....line upon line, precept upon precept. A little here, a little there".

I haven't been able to attend church either for the last 2 years because of schedule conflicts where I work. Perhaps I need dramatic spiritual improvement in my frame of mind as well. After work I prefer to spend my hours at home 'cause it's a jungle out there. Yeah, I get that.

"Fear not" says the Lord. That's easier said than done but with God all things are possible. He wants us to have life and to have it more abundantly. This can and will happen for us.

I may very well look into volunteer work. I'm finding I can't keep my mind on something for longer than a few minutes at the moment so maybe I'll listen over the course of the day.

Firstly, welcome!
That is precisely why you should get out and go to church and go to the bi-weekly church group gatherings. The enemy is winning in keeping you in your own little shell now, where addiction put you before. Now without that addiction you're still suffering the side effects since coming off those substances will very often cause the body to feel depression. Because it is eliminating the toxic buildup those substances caused in your bloodstream. And at the same time the receptors that were engaged by those artificial stimulants are going through withdraw. It is a whole body readjustment period.

And when you're weak is when the enemy can work on that body temple that you are now as you carry God's holy spirit within you.
Drink a lot of fresh water. Most tap water is processed with all sorts of chemicals including fluoride. Certified bottled spring water is excellent. Deer Park is one of the best. Or, try mineral water.
Cleanse your body and you'll feel better. Avoid processed sugars. Drinking alcohol frequently gets the body use to the sugar intake. Coming off sugar like that can cause depression too.

And whatever you do, get out of the house! Walk around, breathe deeply and get fresh air into your body. Call your pastor and seek council. Go to church and your meetings with Bible study. In other words, when the enemy tries to persuade you through your not feeling well to avoid what nurtures your soul to not do that, DO IT!
And watch him flee.

God is with you.
Praying for you too.

Thank you for taking the time to write your post. Deep down I know all of this is true but I struggle to get out of bed at the moment. I just can't do it. It's as if I have no energy whatsoever.

Thanks for your posts Sherrill.

Hello Emily, thanks for your post but I'm in the UK. I'm looking into referring myself to a Christian counsellor but there's not too many of them where I am.

God is able there is nothing He can not do. It may sound not convincing but it is true. John 14:26 and john 16:7 God promises a comforter and an advocate which is the holy spirit, In exodus 23:20 says I will send you an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and bring you to the place I have prepared, this is not only a promise but an evident that assure us that we re never alone, the spirit together with an angel are always there. When darkness falls the best way we can is to pour out our hearts to the Lord to tell him how heavy the burden is and that we are unable to make it on our own. We can only find comfort, fulfillment in the word of God and talking to God
