Are there still apostles today?

The one who claims Jesus did not send out His twelve Apostles before His ascesion has the onu on them to prove it from the scriptures.


Since I have posted the scripture from Matthew 10, where the twelve apostles are both named and sent out, then there is no scripture to refute and this is a closed case.

Later others were commissioned as Apostles and sent out.



Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. If Jesus had sent the Apostles away to carry forth the great commission they would not have been gathered to witness together his ascension to the Father. They'd have been gone on the mission he'd anointed them for.

It is silly to assume your brash attitude and tone over Christ's anointing his Disciples to become his Apostles. I won't participate in that further. Believe as you wish to believe. And argue what you think.

They agree that the apostle John would have still been alive throughout this period (see G.C. Brewer’s discussion as quoted in Bales, pp. 208-210). The doctrine of the primacy of Peter means that the first three of the alleged successors of Peter would have exercised authority over the still-living apostle John—who had been handpicked by Christ Himself! The very John whom Jesus placed on one of the twelve thrones would have been under the authority, knowledge, and power of three popes who had not been selected to be among the original Twelve! (see also Hayden, pp. 22-33). Hayden aptly summarized the New Testament position regarding modern-day apostles:

The thirteen apostles chosen, ordained and endowed by the newly crowned Messiah faithfully and fully executed their commission. Epaphroditus–Philippians 2:25. While the King James Version translates the word as “messenger”, the Greek word (apostolon) is actually “apostle”.
And there are others. There probably suppose to be twelve on the earth. But some forsake there calling and station themselves in a church, which disqualifies them. Hebrew 10: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching

I'm certain that you could go on. There are no Apostles today regardless of what someone thinks or what someone chooses as a self-appointed title. There's a pastor in Philly that claims he's an Apostle. He's far from it.

As to Paul and your remark, maybe read about Saul. He meets the requirements that the learned men in the Apologetics Press article outline as what qualifies someone to be an Apostle of Christ.
