Sorry, you'r both right. The Bible is NEVER wrong!
Sorry but there's only one truth; Gifts are for the common good (full explanation in 1 Cor 12- the body of Christ) but remember Paul is writing a letter to correct a wrong that was happening. If gifts are for the common good then the wrong that was happening was self edification. They can't be both correct and it is wrong for someone to carefully pick a list of the wrong things and teach them as acceptable.
The summary of 1 Cor 14 is this:

1 Cor 14: 9So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. 10Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning.

Nope.
This, is a statement of fact:

1 Cor 12:7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
Yes, that is a statement of fact. It does not disprove what I said in my post.

Paul is addressing the situation where a person speaks in tongues in public without interpretation. Nobody will know what he said.

Also, edifying yourself is not a bad thing.

the verses are correct but the exemplification and seperation from context are not. The letters to the Corinthians were intended to be read in their entirety. not in bits and pieces like false preachers do!

Can you be more specific? What exemplification are you referring to? What is being separated from context?

Your scripture does not relate to your story. Your story cannot be verified and there are many of these types of stories of equal value where there was no prayer in tongues. You are convinced as so it goes but that does not make what you do biblically sound. Dreams according to Joel are for Israel in the end times.

Scripture says that the fervent effectual prayer of the righteous availeth much.

Jas 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
Amazing. Someone does what God says to do, gets the results God says to expect, and you STILL poo-poo it. I want to be a fly on the wall of the throne room when you attempt to explain yourself to God.

Rog, you're back on ignore. And I still have my list. Which continues to grow. Perhaps CS1 WOULD ban you if he knew how adamantly opposed to scripture you are. Adios!

two people using scripture to support contradictory view points one calls the other wrong. Scripture is never wrong.

It is obvious that one of us (me vs Roger or me vs Noose) is wrong. Either tongues have ceased or they haven't. Either edifying yourself is wrong or it's not.

Do you have a position?

YES! The Holy Spirit has not gone away but it manifests itself differently among us on an inividual basis. 1st corinth 13; 1 If I speak in the tongues men or of angels but do not have love i am only a resounding gong or clanging cymbal.

And the Battle rages on. I really don’t understand the point of it.

If anyone doesn’t want to speak in tongues then don’t seek or ask for it and you will not.

If you don’t believe then don’t worry about it because it won’t be forced upon you. You have to ask and believe in order to receive.

So what’s the point in trying to pick others apart for just following what the scripture says.

Sure there are fakers out there that do not have the true Spirit of God. Just like the one man in the scripture that wanted to do the things the Apostles were doing and tried to buy it from them. But was told that it is from God and is something you have to seek from God. Also like the woman going around soothe saying around Paul and got rebuked because she was just in herself trying to appear to be something when she was not and did not have the true Spirit of God. (I’m just going from memory here, but I think that was the gist of it, anyhow.)

So yeah there are still many out there being deceived and deceiving others, but if you have the genuine Spirit of God you will not be deceived.

There is power and gifts from the Genuine Spirit of God. We can choose to seek it out from God and accept it or not… it’s our own choice.

Illogical. Very illogical. If people are not edified because they don't understand what you say with your tongue, then you also who speaks things that you don't understand can not be edified in any way. If you are edified with what you don't know, even the congregation can be edified with what they don't understand.

Talk about misrepresenting Paul.

Even if it's read in its entirety, what we know for sure is that the church in Corinth was doing somethings the wrong way and regarding gifts of the Holy spirit, they were speaking things that people didn't understand in the name of speaking in tongues and self edification. Just like it is today.

And yet what does the scripture say?

1 Cor 14:
4) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

If you are edified with what you don't know, even the congregation can be edified with what they don't understand.
False equivocation. The Bible explicitly states that when tongues is interpreted, the church is edified (1 Cor 14:5), and when a person speaks in tongues, he is edified (1 Cor 14:4; Jude 20).

Talk about misrepresenting Paul.
I believe what Paul wrote.

No, the Corinthians were in fact speaking in tongues. Paul gave them instruction on how the manifestation of tongues is to be used in public. If a person wants to speak in tongues out loud in public, he must interpret. Otherwise, he is to speak silently to himself, and to God.

I never really figured out exactly what blasphemy of the holy spirit is, not in a scientific way that one can measure but i think a person who pretends to have the holy spirit to make others think that he is a holy man or woman is standing with a foot in hell already. We know people do this. The people they sometimes employ are called shills. Some pretend to be crippled who pretend to be miraculosly healed. Jump from their wheel chairs and speak in tongues, dance in the spirit and carry on usually before collection time. I'm talking about fakers.

People really do speak in tongues, get healed and dance in the spirit though. Only God can tell the sheep from the goats. This what tested by fire is about. In the film Fools Parade, Jimmy Stewart had a line that went something like 'God uses those he chooses, the rest use him'. The Holy Spirit is real, more so than the sun which is only temporary. I think I'm done now.
