this debate always makes me wonder if people either are so scared of losing their salvation or are they constantly feeling the need to somehow self justify improper behavior maybe ...
no idea why its so heated myself...
The Holy Spirit lets us know very obviously to each person that they are saved....our fruit speak loudly as to the truth of the matter...
anyways....Gos bless everyone...

remember dont let a fanatical view make you think good works are bad, good works should be a desire because one is saved. Dont let people try and tell you good works are bad, or discipleship, or separation, or seeking holiness, or any way you are led to go about the fathers business.
God is the author and finisher of our faith not people. We are not here to bash others or feel more self righteous then others. We are to love one another, help, build up one another. Be a reflextion of Gods greatness.
Saved by grace because we had faih and believed. We are obedient to what the Lord wants us to do. When we repented, accepted Jesus into our lives, got baptised , those things were not works for salvation, but rather our response to a holy God that was calling and drawing us out of darkness.

No one has said bearing fruit or working for the Lord is bad....this thread is about proper perspective......and a full read of the thread will reveal this truth.....

Oh there are a lot of people who believe in Jesus who fear losing their salvation.
One must ask why?

There are many who are told they were never saved to begin with.
One must ask why?

Many say that works save us, but do not quantify.
I wonder why?

Was I saved because I had fruit?
Or was I saved to bear fruit?
The fruit that matters, not fruit to receive back but fruit that loves?

Answers on a postcard please

Works do not save us. If they did Immanuel would not have had to die on the cross as that final blood sacrifice for all sins and as the unblemished lamb. Good works are a sign of our salvation. Not a means to achieve our salvation.
God's grace saves. That alone is his irrevocable calling and gift to us. All we need to receive it? Faith in Christ and his message on the cross. The moment we believe we are indwelt by the holy spirit that knew us before the creation of the world. Because Jesus / Immanuel knows his sheep by name. And we know him.
Many are called but few are chosen. Many claim Christ but few are the chosen, the elect, of God. We see this when we witness celebrities wearing diamond encrusted crosses and yet acting like the devil.

John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand

Absolutely dcon, our lives are but a living sacrifice to God. We have assurance of our eternal salvation from the very beginning of our Christian life. Our Christian walk and practice is an on going sanctification (being set apart), and a life long pursuit of holy living.

A living Sacrifice: Romans12:1
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, .
holy and pleasing to God
--this is your true and proper worship."

Great avitar migo, God bless!

"Answer the postcard please".
OK, GET OUT OF THERE! Lava is not your friend!
BillG said, "answer 'on' a postcard" meaning keep it simple. Not sure what your reference to lava means except maybe because it is on the news.

Does the Gospel of Thomas have "Gnostic Ideology" I believe it does. A quote from the Gospel of Thomas does not seem proper to have as a signature on an International Christian website. Of course this is only my opinion.

The Gospel of Thomas: Gnostic or not?
However, in line with many other scholars, it seems best to conclude that it at least contains some Gnostic-like ideas such as salvation by secret knowledge, the extreme asceticism or disdain for the bodily appetites, polytheism, the reference to the bridal chamber, the idea of a heavenly teaching Christ who may not necessarily be human, etc. Thomas also places little emphasis on the value of the Old Testament Scriptures. This was certainly in line with Gnostic thinking. Even if Thomas is not Gnostic, it appears to have vast similarities with “Gnosticism” as broadly defined.

If you walk by faith and not by sight then couldn't one ask about your signature too?
