You will probably be glad you didn't become a mechanic. Working on cars these days isn't the same with all of the electronic/computer-controlled equipment and complex systems they have now...

This guy has been a mechanic for 40+ years and owns a shop in texas.... he explains the reason at 1:30...

(there's no swearing in the video)

I hadn't taken that into account. I had a old car that seemed cool to work on, but replacing electric boards doesn't really sound that cool at all. :/

Well they don't actually replace circuit boards, but to give an example.. I know someone who has a lexus SUV and an air control valve needed replacing because it was causing a check engine light and they couldn't pass inspection until it was fixed... On older cars it would be easy and cheap to replace an air control valve, but on this 2010 lexus they had to take the entire top of the engine apart and the repair cost over $2k(!!!), and the part itself was only like $100.

Lexus has always been expensive to work on. I remember the $1500 Lexus tune ups on the 90s models.

Fun thing about dream jobs. No matter how old you are, everyone still has one.

My dream job is to be the co-founder and co- CEO of a charity. The idea was we'd win one of those mega jackpots after the winning ticket blew in our hands.

Hubby wanted to use his money to start a computer-learning/owner charity. Not only did he want to help kids learn how to make and repair computers, (see how old the idea is, considering very few actually buy old-fashioned desktop computers anymore? lol), but once they learned, they'd build their own and take it home. That way they'd get a computer to help with school work, but they also start learning a trade for after school.

Mine was more of a don't-fall-threw-the-cracks kind of charity. The number one reason people need Disability in the US is because they became disabled in their working years. The problem is, everyone needs money to live on, and yet Disability takes 6 months to 2.5 years to go on. No one saves that kind of money to live on while they go through the process. So, I wanted to work with our local Social Security office. The case workers tell me of someone who has no family that can help them financially while applying, and my charity helps them. Once approved, everyone gets back-pay for the time between truly being unable to work and finally getting first check. 80% of that back-pay goes back to the charity to help the next people.

And, if they can't ever get on Disability, then my charity helps them start some kind of home-based business so they can make it on their own without SSDI.

Alas. The winning lottery ticket hasn't blown into our hands.
Such an awesome job :) !

haha yeah, but seriously…im like wondering… with my career choice and all… i dont know what would happen when i do get married and have kids in the future. it will mean i'll have to quit my dream job… how can you be both? seems pretty hard especially when you end up marrying a guy who works full-time.

Some people make both work. For me, unless money is an issue, I wouldn't even try. Being a wife and mother really and truly is my dream job; any other career is totally optional. I mean, not that I wouldn't enjoy another career if that is what God chooses to give me, but we're talking jobs that you've always dreamed about having, and for me a wife/mother is the only one who fits the bill :).

Because they are in high demand, and an RN degree is very diverse. I would have a lot of options, and am pretty much guaranteed to find a job with it. Or, if I wanted to, I could go on to use it as a foundation and go for a higher degree with it. It's not what my dreamy side would choose, but my practical, ambitious side approves.
There's a reason it's a high demand job. First, ewww! Bodily fluid clean-up duty. Ew ew. Second, it's hazardous to your health. 30% of nurses end up with bad backs.

Do you know what you call a nurse with a bad back? Unemployed.

I really do get if you love it go for it. But if you're going with job security, it's not as secure as it seems. That's why they're in such high demand.

Yes, a lot of nurses end up with back injuries, but I think they might be preventable if one does strengthening exercises for the lower back..

It depends on what kind of nurse you are. The word "nurse" is really general, and covers everything from nursing homes to private hire. I was going to shoot more for the latter, or perhaps one of those people who handle the newborns. But a lot of it depends on how my personal life is looking when I graduate.

With the grace of God and determination and perseverance you may indeed become a doctor one day. Stay close to God, read your bible and remember to say your prayers at night. Glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

Don't be afraid to follow your dreams, teens. Just make good, practical decisions. Don't cut out when the going gets tough, either.

I have my dream career, but not my dream job. Relationship status: complicated.

I have my dream job as a web developer / programmer. However, it's not for everyone, if you can't teach it to yourself, you'll have a bad time as you are always learning new things on the job.
