You don't believe that John is addressing two manners of walk.
One in the light, and the other in darkness.
Those in the darkness cannot say they have no sin.
Those in the light can say they have no sin, because ALL the sin has been washed away and they remain in the light...which is God.

If a person moves from the light, he was never in the light. Those born of God cannot bear evil fruit/sin.
Those in the darkness can repent of sin, be washed with the blood of Christ and walk in the light, which is God.
A return to sin would manifest a false repentance, and you can't build fellowship with God using lies.

To "say you have no sin (present tense), and deceive yourself, and the truth is not in you" (1 John 1:8) does not equate to love God above all else. It appears that you are in love with the idea of loving God above all else, yet continuing to exalt yourself as sinless in a boastful way and debasing others as sinful in a demeaning way is a manifestation of loving God above all else?

I was raised with Christ to walk in newness of life. A life with a divine nature.
If your original motive for conversion was sorrow for past sins and to be free of sin and completely pleasing to God, then you are either not praying or reading enough.
You may not have moved away from the people or things that attracted the now dead and gone "you".
First question to ask them is..."Do you commit sin?"
If they say "yes", run as fast as you can.
If they say "no", ask them the explain 1 John 1:8.

If obedience to God so offends you, perhaps you should try a new hobby and can all that Christian righteousness crud.
It's not just that, PJ, I mean, PJW,goes around and calls others lost as well. Seems really familiar, sort of like PJ never really left by way of banned camp and is still here claiming sinless perfection and others as lost.
There is still time to turn from sin and get washed by the blood of Christ.

this brings great sadness, by showing us that some just cannot stand
correction or true teaching from those who have given over their very lives
to obeying and serving their Holy Master...
