Hi Megiddo,
First, I want to say that I'm not proposing we come under the law. Why would we now that we have Jesus? I just wanted to say that so no one misunderstands my reason for the question. Gotta be super extra careful around here!
But:
What about Romans 7 where Paul speak about the law?
What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
The law reveals to us like it did to Paul that we're a sinner right?
But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead. I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died; and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me; for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
So when the law comes and convicts us as a law-breaker, sin becomes alive in us now. We now know that we're a sinner and we knowingly spiritually die, yes? Sin deceived me and the commandment killed me because the wages of sin is death, yes?
Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? May it never be! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.
The law which is good was not the cause of my death. It was my sin that caused my death. So isn't the law still my tutor or schoolmaster? And then when I realize I'm a sinner, then I come to the Lord through the faith you're speaking of?
Just trying to harmonize Romans 7 with your Galatians scripture.
Thanks!
Does the Law convict you of sin today or the Holy Spirit?
John 16.8-11
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; [SUP]9 [/SUP]concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; [SUP]10 [/SUP]and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; [SUP]11 [/SUP]and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
Maybe Romans 7.25- Romans 8.1-5 is harmonized better with 1 Cor 15.56-58
[SUP]56 [/SUP]The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; [SUP]57 [/SUP]but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. [SUP]58 [/SUP]Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not
in vain in the Lord.
Romans 7.25
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. [SUP]2 [/SUP]For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. [SUP]3 [/SUP]For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God
did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and
as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, [SUP]4 [/SUP]so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
I would read all of Galatians 3....the verses I posted do not reveal the whole thought....the whole thought starts with Gal 3.15 and finishes in Gal 4.20
