Why i wear a cross

There are those who say "you should not wear a cross because it puts Jesus back upon the cross"...absurd!

There is one very valid reason to not wear a cross. Exodus 20:4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol". This is directly from God. But the cross in and among itself is not wrong. How we treat it can be. If we are praying to the cross or focusing upon the cross as an "image" of God, this is wrong. Though there are some who do this I do not.

This past Christmas my best friend and sister in Christ gave me two gifts. One a cross pendant for a necklace the other a leather bracelet with a wood piece and cross inlay. I wear them 24/7, except i have to remove the braclet for a shower. To me these are very special gifts but they mean more to me than "just a gift".

The necklace--when wearing the necklace the pendant is close to my heart. To me this reminds me of how close Jesus is to me. This is a constant physical reminder that Jesus is in my heart and will not leave me.

The bracelet--i wear the bracelet on my right wrist as i am right handed. That cross inlayed in the wood is a reminder that my actions should reflect Jesus. Because i am right handed that hand does most of the "work" so i see that constantly. The cross inlayed in the wood also reminds me that Jesus is "imbeded" in me. Because of that fact should i do certain things? What would Jesus think if i were to steal, lie, murder or even think of certain things? Am i doing things that reflect Jesus in my life? Am i showing others that i am "not of this world"? What would Jesus have me do? When doing things this bracelet is my reminder to do as Jesus would have me do.

This is why i wear the cross. I dont worship the cross or see it as an "image" of God. These two simple pieces of jewelery are my constant reminders of who i am now not of who i was. They remind me, because us humans have short memories, that i was bought and paid for at a very high price. They remind me that i am Gods child and i should be different from "the norm". They remind me to thank God for all He has done for me, both in good and bad times.

"Dear Lord I thank you for protecting me from myself. I thank you for getting me through rough times. I thank you for these simple reminders to praise you constantly. All i can do is praise you in everything for you saved my life."

I don't wear one....and if you choose to....your business right?

I agree, im not aware of anything in the bible that forbids the wearing of a piece of jewelry shaped like a cross. If you are not worshiping it and using it simply as a reminder of the one true and living God, then thats great (in my opinion)

If I wore something, I would prefer to wear an "open tomb" reminder, the power of the resurrection. Without the resurrection, the cross means nothing.

This is also true. The bracelet has already opened some witnessing for me as it is unusual being leather, string and dark wood with a "blonde" cross inlay.

I figured it was because Jesus said that he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

I'm a bit strange on this one.
Personally I have never worn a cross as I don't feel worthy enough.
What if a say a harsh word, or have a wrong attitude etc while wearing
a cross. What sort of witness does it say to others who see that cross and
expect me to be 100% perfect.

I'm not 100% so personally I find it hard to wear one.

I respect others who want to wear one though.

I wear one daily and I won't call myself a Christian. Contradiction. I like that I can feel it thump against my breastbone frequently and when it does it reminds me to think about it and what it stands for.

The cross has become a fashion accessory for many people, mainly Women. A better witness in my view would be the Fish Pendant. It would be a talking point and opportunity to witness to people who ask why you are wearing it

Some
people have too much time on their hands to criticize this one thing.

As the only Christian in a group of 33 physicians in an in an emergency room of about 70 employees, I think that it is important for me to wear it. It is a constant reminder to me, if no one else, who I serve and what Christ's sacrifice was for me. It's a visible reminder to me when I'm feeling overwhelmed.

I wear a sterling silver cross around my neck but there is no Christ-figure on it. Even if one was on it, I would not take issue.

This!

I'm going to be honest and say that sometimes at work a foul word escapes my mouth and people look at me in shock. I'm sure they're wondering "what is this girl with the Cross doing? saying?" I'm far from perfect. But I love the Lord and I work every day to allow his Love to shine through me, even on my bad days/moments. People who aren't saved, yet expect the Christians they see, to be perfect, are clearly missing the point of Christ and His sacrifice on the Cross. They miss the point that perfection in humans is not only impossible, but should never be expected, Christian, or not.

I'm still daily praying that the parts of me that are not of Him will continue to be taken away and that His love will be perfected in me, especially in a very anti-Christian and overall hostile, stressful environment.

We are not supposed to have relics. The Bible itself can be treated as one, but it's not wrong to have a Bible. I knew a lady who always kept a Bible in her car, and said that is why she's never been in a car accident. She didn't read it or live by it, just carrying it with her made her righteous and protected (in her mind).

If Jesus died in an electric chair, would you hang a little gold electric chair charm from your necklace? When the Bible says to carry your cross in means spiritually. The odds of you carrying a physical cross in order to do so spiritually, are very slim. Glory in the cross is not in a piece of wood, but in what Christ did for us.

I guess it depends on your intention. I think displaying a nativity scene at Christmas is a remindful decoration, but seeing a statue of Mary on people's lawns year round is a relic/idol.

Pity you dont live in the UK. Large sections of the medical community here seem to
be Christian or have a belief in God. I go to a large church which is close to two
major hospitals, the church is full of so many medical staff there is probably enough
to start up a small hospital. Lol

i don't wear a cross or any other jewelry but thats me. If Jesus was shot would people be wearing pistols on a chain? seems that crosses have become a fashion statement in the world today. Not only believers wear them, so i can't tell if someone is a believer if they are wearing a cross, ozzy osborne wears one and he calls himself prince of darkness. i'm not name calling he calls himself that. Think of other people you have seen wearing crosses that dont seem to be a believer. People against God seem to wear as a mockery, like look what we did. Just wanted to say everyone wearing a cross is not doing it in righteousness.
