Ok so we have all been there the church service is over and out of
nowhere, a pair of arms throw themselves around you and squeeze
the living daylights out of you.

So any ideas of how to avoid this folks?

Here is a few I thought might be useful.

1) Ladies bend down and rummage around in your hand bag

2) Get out a tissue and pretend you have a streaming cold equivalent to
the bubonic plague

3) Pick up the tithe basket and start handing it around (people will disappear in
a flash)

4) Goose step out of the church.

5) Offer the hugger the use of your breathe freshener first.

If you do managed to get hugged after all of these methods, hold on for an uncomfortably long time. They wont do it again.

Once had that in a church service. Give the person next to you a hug. Eeehm nope.

Guess so yes. The only place where I rarely get a hug from a woman is in church. The Dutch don't hug. Get out of my personal space!! We do 3 kisses on the cheek though. If you don't want that you can keep your arm straight.
Once in a church it was a guest speaker from America I think who said: give your neighbour a hug. A guy from my church sat next to me. A hug??? Are you nuts? No way! Gave him a friendly handshake.

I always have to deal with the "man" hugs. Most of them we have not even spent a total of 5 minutes discussing anything important. What I have learned to do is to hold my hand out in front of me for a handshake when I see one coming. It usually works. A hand is a barrier and a handshake is friendly. Try it.

I'm sure that I have a reputation for being sort of cold (who cares?), but it saves me from having to be squished against my wishes.

Yet, I look around me and see all these women loving their hugs from all and everyone - and I wonder if I really am cold

I love it when someone hugs me with their eyes first. Not those ritual hugs where they don't even really look at you first.

If you don't get at least six hugs before church even starts, at our place, you start checking to see if you forgot to brush your teeth this morning.

I don't like to hug strangers or even acquaintances. I only like to hug family & friends whom I know & love.

This happens? I don't need a stranger hugging me. I'd just be honest... XD

Nobody is gonna grab me against my will. And for some strange reason, I don't ever have to say anything to get that point across.

Wow I didn't realize there were so many anti-huggers.

Oh well, better not come to my church.

I haven't found myself in this situation, but maybe that's because I'm a guy. I do love a good bear hug (giving and receiving them) but only from friends and family (I use the word 'friends' rather loosely when it comes to hugs). I certainly won't force a hug on people, I like to think I can respect people's personal space (even if I don't understand this one). HUGS!

If it's a woman doing it, just sort of wiggle back and forth, while going "mmmm mmmm mmm".
Bet they avoid you next time...

Or, you could take it for what it is...someone in your family saying " I love you!"
