I do not ever agree with AOC but in this case I do agree. It was a shame this hardened criminal had such a low bail or any at all due to his past skipping bail.
America does have a incarceration problem and even though many variables contribute to that like broken families, broken public schools, immoral colleges, immorality in general, and of course, issues like Kyle Rittenhouse or the father who does all he can but is broken by abusive child support laws (like the women living with a man but never marry) if they can't pay then they are put in jail. Kyle spent 82 days behind bars due to his lawyers pocketing his bail money they were fundraising for and they told him he would be safer in jail. Then due to our process we do not often see the right to a speedy trial. It can take up to a year or longer.
We have so many laws that I read a statistic one time saying by average we commit 10 felonies a day without knowing it.
It is illegal in Gainesville GA to eat fried chicken with a fork. Sounds funny but it promotes the fact if someone wants to throw you behind bars, they will find a way.
Jails and prisons are over crowded due to political agendas like open borders that leave our judicial system swamped and often criminals get released.
Prisons are understaffed and often 10 inmates per guard.
AOC's plan is more federal help. That is the wrong way to go. They need at most simply help fund states with no strings attached to fix their systems.
Fixing their systems would involve a foundation in morality. The Christian Bible. Then they need work programs to help assimilate the inmate back into society as a law abiding and contributing individual. Also having a stronger stance on the death penalty would save tax payers lots of money. Life sentences should only be given out if the case had any ounce of doubt on the crime of the imdividual's guilty verdict. If they will not work in prison they will not eat.
Why is our prisons in many locations little hotel rooms? Tv, cot, appliances, etc? I like the way one Warden in TX runs his. Most inmates are in big tents with bunk beds out in the yard.
Basically criminals need more incentive to not commit a crime.
