Remember what Jesus said to the woman caught in Adultery?

"go and sin no more"

Have we forgotten who Jesus is?

When God says be made whole then the person is made whole.

When God says, peace be still, the storm stops.

When God says, let there be light then there is light.

Where is your faith? When God says, "sin no more" the very power needed will be provided to the one who has faith.

as it is written:

Hab 2:4 ...the just shall live by his faith.

and again:

Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

So then, We sin not because its impossible to stop but because we lack faith in Gods word.

Mitspa,

I am just wondering here, have you read any of her books? The net is full of her "visions and dreams" and what didnt come true ect, and as an SDA myself, I get what you are saying. However, her visions are a very small part of what she wrote on. I personally cant defend her visions, nor will I try. But her other writings, and books I can to a degree. I take her writings more as a Commentary and her thoughts and ideas of Biblical topics. In that light she has some real good stuff to say. When I read them,I am pointed back to the Bible, and with the exception of the visions, I have yet to find issue with the Bibles teachings.

On the note of incorrect information you feel she has, correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Bible record one or a few Prophets and or men/woman of God, that didnt do quite what God wanted? Are there not a few recordings of Prophets getting it wrong (I think at least one did it on purpose even)? Granted they were called out in the Bible, but they were still in the end men / women of God. At the end of the day you will have your own views, and I can not will not try to convict / convince you one way or the other, that is the job of the Holy Spirit. I can only plant a seed, and the seed I would offer you, if you have not already, is to read some of her other stuff.
You know Sylven....a true prophet of God has a biblical standard they must meet or God declares they are a false prophet! He does not play with false prophets nor false Apostles...he says we should hate them! Where do you think a real biblical prophet got it wrong on a prophecy from God? And can you name one real prophecy from this woman that came to pass?

He first gave her the gift of grace...neither do I condemn thee...He took her out of the judgment of the law, and gave her grace...which is how you overcome sin!

Ro 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

I have posted the following just for you a question posed to Ellen White and her answer. Please take the time to read the following my friend.

"I do not claim to be a prophetess."[/h]Why does the Seventh-day Adventist church believe that Ellen G. White received the gift of prophecy when she said that she did not claim to be a prophetess? The misuse often made of this Ellen White statement is an illustration of the importance of proper context. Here, in her own words, is what Ellen White did and did not mean by her statement:

"Some have stumbled over the fact that I said I did not claim to be a prophet; and they have asked, Why is this?
"I have had no claims to make, only that I am instructed that I am the Lord's messenger; that He called me in my youth to be His messenger, to receive His word, and to give a clear and decided message in the name of the Lord Jesus.

"Early in my youth I was asked several times, Are you a prophet? I have ever responded, I am the Lord's messenger. I know that many have called me a prophet, but I have made no claim to this title. My Saviour declared me to be His messenger. 'Your work,' He instructed me, 'is to bear My word. Strange things will arise, and in your youth I set you apart to bear the message to the erring ones, to carry the word before unbelievers, and with pen and voice to reprove from the Word actions that are not right. Exhort from the Word. I will make My Word open to you. It shall not be as a strange language. In the true eloquence of simplicity, with voice and pen, the messages that I give shall be heard from one who has never learned in the schools. My Spirit and My power shall be with you.' . . .

"Why have I not claimed to be a prophet?--Because in these days many who boldly claim that they are prophets are a reproach to the cause of Christ; and because my work includes much more than the word 'prophet' signifies. . . .

"To claim to be a prophetess is something that I have never done. If others call me by that name, I have no controversy with them. But my work has covered so many lines that I cannot call myself other than a messenger, sent to bear a message from the Lord to His people, and to take up work in any line that He points out.

"When I was last in Battle Creek, I said before a large congregation that I did not claim to be a prophetess. Twice I referred to this matter, intending each time to make the statement, 'I do not claim to be a prophetess.' If I spoke otherwise than this, let all now understand that what I had in mind to say was that I do not claim the title of prophet or prophetess" (Review and Herald, July 26, 1906, reprinted in Selected Messages, book 1, pp. 31-35).

"During the discourse, I said that I did not claim to be a prophetess. Some were surprised at this statement, and as much is being said in regard to it, I will make an explanation. Others have called me a prophetess, but I have never assumed that title. I have not felt that it was my duty thus to designate myself. Those who boldly assume that they are prophets in this our day are often a reproach to the cause of Christ.

"My work includes much more than this name signifies. I regard myself as a messenger, entrusted by the Lord with messages for His people" (Letter 55, 1905; quoted in Selected Messages, book 1, pp. 35, 36).

Look when you claim to speak for God about forth-coming issues and make predictions in His name...you are in fact claiming to be a prophet...now you posted one statement where she kind of rejects the title...in others she seems to claim the title. but the point is that she claimed to speak for God and make predictions that failed over and over!

I really don't see her as predicting a lot of things to happen - I do see her as a prolific writer of books that were very informational and lots of them about the Bible in that she wrote Patriarchs and Prophets, The Desire of Ages (about the life of Jesus), Prophets and Kings, Acts of the Apostles and so many more books.

My understanding was William Miller was the one doing the predicting, but then maybe I am wrong I don't claim to know everything and since my importance is in the Bible and not Ellen White as even she recommended that I spend my time in the Bible.....I don't know everything about her as the Bible is my guide book. She claimed to be a messenger and that would be my claim too as I am a servant of the Lord or a messenger of the good news which is to share the gospel to those who don't know the Lord. It is a commission given to all Christians.

Too bad you don't have questions for SDA's and that you just want to harp on a woman who has been dead for many years - a woman I might add that loved the Lord just as you do and wanted to serve Him. Who believed she was saved by grace and that Jesus was her Savior just like you believe.

My understanding is that the thread was opened for questions - not to defend Ellen White. Can we move on now to a few questions? She herself said she didn't claim to be a prophet so how can you hold her to those standards?

No I reject in absolute terms that ellen g white had a real faith in Christ, and with all the authority of the scriptures that condemn false prophets and teachers say that she has no part in the Kingdom of God...weather the Lord might have mercy on her soul and save her from the fires of hell...I cannot say?

Your above statement is pretty judgmental and we are asked to not judge and with the judgment you deal out you will be judged so it would be better to say you don't know her fate rather than she has no part of the kingdom of God as you don't really know where she will end up. It is o.k. to have opinions but got to be careful about the judging part as that is God's job.

The thread is still one for questions so if you want to rail against Ellen please open another thread. Thanks.

As I said the scriptures judge these false prophets and teachers in very harsh terms...I uphold the scriptures and their judgment against these wicked people.

Ok i went back to find the story i was thinking about, it was 1 king 22:1-40 and I was a bit off in what i said above. Though I am looking for other cases as well that I though I had seen.

1Ki 22:14 And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD saith unto me, that will I speak.
1Ki 22:15 So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
1Ki 22:16 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the LORD?

Now after that, Micaiah did come clean and gave Ahab the true vision. But had Ahab not pushed him for the truth...?

1Ki 22:17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.
1Ki 22:18 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
1Ki 22:19 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
1Ki 22:20 And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
1Ki 22:21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.
1Ki 22:22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
1Ki 22:23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
1Ki 22:24 But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
1Ki 22:25 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see in that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.
1Ki 22:26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
1Ki 22:27 And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.
1Ki 22:28 And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

The remainder records the actual vision came true

In regards to you last question, "And can you name one real prophecy from this woman that came to pass?" I have already said i was not going to debate her visions one way or another.

But you did not answer my question, have you read any of her books? Or are you just pulling a few lines off the internet from others to make your case? If the later is the true, then I would again tell you go read some of her books, then come back and speak from first hand. I have not read every one of her books, nor have I read all of her visions in context, so I can not speak beyond what I have read. And as I said before, I read her material as if it were commentary not scripture.

Haz,
We do not preach that one is saved by works. We say because you are saved, you will do the works. Because you are save you will keep the commandments. Joh_14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. It is not a matter of keep them do them to be saved, or righteous. It is a matter of Loving God, and being obedient.
Hi Sylven,

I already know that Adventists say this.
But what Adventists fail to see is that they are still preaching righteousness by works of the law based on a misunderstanding of scripture thinking that it speaks of works of the law showing their faith.

Being under the law is being disobedient to God's will as such are rejecting the Christ.

BTW, Christians keep both of Christ's commandments, 1John 3:23.
1: Believe on Jesus
2: Love one another

My point being, we have to take all scripture, on a topic and build doctrine, not just a few that agree with what we want or think.
I've found from many debates with Adventists that they follow an error doctrine based on a worldly/physical understanding. They pick scriptures that they like and then misuse them to fit their choice of doctrine.

For example you quoted a number of scriptures about works but none of them supported the Adventist's claim that they refer to works of the law.

Below I refer you to just two of the many scriptures that contradict Adventist doctrine.

Gal 3:12
The law is not of faith.

Rom 11:6
And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

BTW, not only do we have to take all of scripture into consideration, but we also have to rightly divide the word of truth.

"Early in my youth I was asked several times, Are you a prophet? I have ever responded, I am the Lord's messenger. I know that many have called me a prophet, but I have made no claim to this title. My Saviour declared me to be his messenger. 'Your work,' he instructed me, 'is to bear my word. ... It is not you that speaketh: it is the Lord that giveth the messages of warning and reproof. Never deviate from the truth under any circumstances . Give the light I shall give you. The messages for these last days shall be written in books, and shall stand immortalized, to testify against those who have once rejoiced in the light, but who have been led to give it up because of the seductive influences of evil.' Why have I not claimed to be a prophet?--Because in these days many who boldly claim that they are prophets are a reproach to the cause of Christ; and because my work includes much more than the word 'prophet' signifies." (Review and Herald, July 26, 1907)

She claimed to be more than a prophet!

Remember what Jesus said to the woman caught in Adultery?

"go and sin no more"......

So then, We sin not because its impossible to stop but because we lack faith in Gods word.
Anyone who knows any Adventists as family or friends all know how imperfect their behavior/lifestyle is. In spite of their teaching on obedience to the law all Adventists fail to keep the commandments.

Jesus said "go and sin no more", yet Adventists continue in sin.

Why?

Gal 2:18
For if I build again those things which I destroyed (righteousness by works of the law), I make myself a transgressor/Sinner

Christians, however, have ceased from sin, as Jesus commanded.

1Pet 4:1
Therefore, since Christ suffered (crucified) for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind (our old man crucified with him, Rom 6:6), for he who has suffered in the flesh (Rom 6:6) has ceased from sin

1John 3:9
Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

Rom 8:33
Who shall lay any thing (this includes sin) to the charge of God's elect?

Once we receive Jesus we have ceased from sin as our life is hid with Christ in God (Col 3:3).
Our old physical body that sins is already dead (by faith, crucified with Christ Rom 6:6, 1Pet 4:1) because of sin, Rom 8:10.
Our faith is counted for righteousness (Rom 4:5).

Yes Mitspa, she claimed to be more than what "prophet" means to people these days. I also consider myself to be more than a preacher. I do many things in church, outside of church, usually things nobody sees or thanks me for, that have nothing to do with standing behind a pulpit talking to a congregation.

Did you read what you copy-pasted or did you just see "she thinks she is more than a prophet!" and jump on it as something you could use as an argument?

I'm not saying she's right. I don't believe what SDA's believe. But your arguments are... spurious at best.

I am an SDA and I am a sinner. Granted I am a forgiven sinner and it is by the grace of God and the sacrifice that Jesus made for me and for you...... Does that mean I never fall on my face and sin again? Oh I wish it were true I never make a mistake but sadly I do fall but I have a Savior as you do that when I come and submit to Him and repent He forgives me and then helps me dust off and we go together again.

I do that I don't want to do and that I want to do I don't do....Paul and I seem to have the same problem we need a Savior all the time not just part of the time....You need that Savior too..... As Jesus would say he who is without sin let him cast the first stone.... This is not a denominational problem this is a world (sinful earth) problem.....We are not in heaven yet.....Where is the love and this forgiving spirit I hear about?
